N.S.W Death Index shows under the spelling "BEAZLEY" ( allowing for wrong imformant info on death certs. ( ie: parents names and ages at death )

Hi Martyn.

Australian convict data show there were two Samuel HURST transported to Australia.

One in 1819 sent to N.S.W penal colony
One in 1844 sent to Tasmania penal colony.

Given from what information you have told me.

Samuel Hurst, one of 270 convicts transported on the "William Jardine", 10 August 1844.
Sentence details: Convicted at Nottingham, East Retford Quarter Sessions for a term of 7 years.
Vessel: William Jardine.

Place of Arrival: Van Diemen's Land.

Transported for stealing Mahogany plank and 3 Pine wood slabs from Mr. Rawlett at Gainsborough
Gaol Report: 2nd Conviction
Status: Married ( Wife and 5 children )

TL ( Ticket of Leave ) 11th July 1848

Recommended for CP ( Conditional Pardon ) 30th Jan 1849
CP approved 5th Feb 1850

Given that Samuel Hurst was 56 years of age at the time of arrival in 1844 and Conditional pardoned in 1850, making him around 61 years of age, i cannot see any marriage ( 2nd marriage ) that may have taken place on Australian BDM's
Convicts also needed permission to marry or re-marry, but cant find any records regarding a second marriage.

Its also possible ( on occasions )his family ( wife and children ) may have followed him out to tasmania....but i would need to know ( names ) of children and spouse to check.

Hi Tony and thanks very much for the offer. My family all came from Boldre, Hampshire, England. Stephen Gatrell b c1794 (parents Thomas Gatrell and Hannah Gregory) was sent to Australia sometime before 1817. I know this because he is mentioned in a book by Rev.Comyn about Boldre in 1817 - he just says for stealing and got 7 years. Any extra info you could give me would be very much appreciated.

The name Gatrell has a variation of Gaterille which I have seen on a couple of occasions.

Thanks again
