Jean as a thought, do you have all the death certs to se if they pop up somewhere?

Or marriage certs?

My money would be on the military?

Hi Tracey

A right little miracle worker. Thanks again for all your efforts. I'm away to study it all. Knowing how easily confused I am may take some time:-))).

Hello again Tracey,

No I have never been able to find a marriage or death for either in Scotland .
You are probably right about the military but how would I find out please,

Cheers

Hi Jean

I meant on all the other family members.... maybe they pop up somewhere on one?

Or a witness on a marriage of a sibling?

Indeed, i have a whole half of my tree all Scottish, and i have a few strays.... and alot of headaches!

Your options are Emmigration, Military or Death.

Emmigration might be a case of waiting til the lists are more complete.

Military would be a case of going through the lists and seeing if you can find them (parent details would be on the next of kin page on the docs)

Death.... well thats a harder one, you might have to wait until someone else has some of the same family members and they know something more than you do.

Hi Tracey

Have studied your findings and just to see if I could turn anything else up I tried familysearch site. Seems Hector C died 1959 in Lismore and Melva S died 1944 Sydney. Assume that as she came up when I searched against White she remained unmarried.

Productive lot that family I must say.

Regards
Jeanie

Edit: Earlier you said:- There is a tree on Ancestry, however the tree has no details on Edward except parents listed as Alexander White & Maria, again no details for the parents (hmmm). Presume the hmmm means you think they are mistaken about the parenthood?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 29 May 2010 11:52

Nope the Hmmmm, was frustration is people just copying what they find from someone else, times 4 and then not bother to do anything else for themselves....

Time after time you look at tree's and see people have just copied and pasted the things other people have posted..... including things like (unknown location) maybe Norfolk..... and then every tree has the exact same thing on it.....

At some point wouldn't at least 1 person think, hmmmm, something isn't right here, i'm not going to be lazy, i'm gonna get off my ass and actually look at what i'm pasting...

Rant over!

Wendy

Wendy Report 29 May 2010 12:21

Very apt rant Tracey.
As you know, I traced the Fishies back to 1660, using a relatives data.
Wasn't until I started to fill in the wives names I realised they couldn't possibly have been born then.
Had I not said something, true birthdates wouldn't have been known, and false information passed on.
As it turned out..and here's a little warning to everyone..the gedcom she used moved dates around.

WayneTracey Report 29 May 2010 13:33

I'm not getting very far with this email of yours!

Did you get reply?

Dozey Report 29 May 2010 13:38

Not sure if your last post was meant for me Tracey. If it was the answer is I'm afraid "No". No e-mail received after you sent him my address.

You just cannot help some people can you??

I understand your "rant". Very frustrating. I try to double check things - have been advised to do so by more than one person.

I'm ignorant about gedcoms and from what Wendy says sounds like a good thing too.

Jeanie

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 29 May 2010 13:45

It wasn't.... but still it applies i suppose.

I agree, altho sometimes people add these trees together, then when it comes to the finer details (see my other rant) they are uncaring...

I'm almost at the point of shouting, you cared enought to add them, and possibly bask in your family's glory at the wonderment of how far back you go..... obviously completely missing the point that your very existance means you 'go back' some time.... just where?

Alot of people are more bothered about how many people they can get in their tree rather than the actual people within it.

I had a fellow the other day who wouldn't accept a base child and was hell bend on finding any possible father and wanting to DNA test any current descendants !!!

I mean how in the world would you start that convo??..... I think your wonderful Gfather boinked my Gmother and i want a blood test from you to prove it. I know what my second word would be, and thats OFF !!!

I have many base born (or at least unfathered by name) children, just accept the reasoning your ancestor wanted the name balnk and move on!

You cannot possible go a witch hunt for possible victims!

Sigh

Dozey Report 29 May 2010 13:53

Certainly makes it all pointless doesn't it. I have one such sticking point on a great grandfather by the name of Rowles. Census say he was born in Witney (varying dates but around 1843). On his marriage Certe says his father's name is Wiggins. Loads of searches, incorrect Certificate bought after doing checks on possible parents names on GRO. Came up blank on every one. Know he was living with a Margaret Rowles in 1851 who had married a Thos. Wiggins the previous year but no John Rowles with a Wiggins father nor with a Margaret mother so I've given up. Just have to accept the fact that I'll never know.

I'm off to drop back in on the Fancy Dress Birthday Party on the "Tips Board". Great fun.
