I spent many hours scouring the East Dereham parish images, and tracked every base child born 1790-1816.
SARAH June 1796 ANN SMITH
CHARLOTTE BECKHAM May 1798 HANNAH SMITH
*FREDERIC LEAKE June 1800 SUSANNAH SMITH
WILLIAM July1803 SUSANNAH SMITH
STEPHEN Oct 1810 MARY SMITH
SUSAN Mar 1812 SUSAN SMITH

William looks hopeful, and perhaps Charlotte. Sarah and Susan possible depending on recorder of recorders interpretation of name, and I think we can dismiss Stephen

Thankyou for your help Ellen.
Yes, I added Susannah and her parents and siblings in the hope someone will connect, and I have been asking around.
"IF" one of the Wiiliams was Frederic's brother, he may have married a Sarah..and that is how she is connected.
All very frustrating, but in a perverse genealogical way...fun too LOL.

Sarah Smith ,witness would not be the Sarah Smith c 1804,She would have been married by 1838.Nothing to say that said Sarah Smith ,witness ,was single.

LOL thankyou Ellen.
I have been told...too hard, not enough facts, and don't guess!.
But sometimes you have to delete what you find before the truth is found!
Thankfully I have 99.9% proof that Frederic (I can't help but write his name as he was baptised) is my GGGrandfather, thanks to a marriage certificate sighted my a Breeze/Dulieu researcher. He has been most helpful filling in many family ancestors, and data I didn't have.
I really do think it is too much of a coincidence that there are/were 3 base babies, all with the same mother's name, and 2 of them at the same parish.

Ellen, I really think that the mysterious Sarah is the link.
And now with another 2 possible East Dereham Smith Base babes...a possible batch of little clues, just waiting to be put together..or disgarded..either way, important information.

As the professional Geneologist will tell you .you are allowed educated guesses. LOL

I noticed it said Frederick leake Smith -base ,Publicly.
Could she have been told my church to add Father's surname as middle name.Have you searched for a male Leake born in the same parish as Susannah Smith.Have you found a Susannah Smith born in parish that fits your Susannah?

Ellen

Wendy

Wendy Report 24 May 2010 13:00

Yes, Elizabeth Rigby died C1836.
He married Elizabeth Brees (Breeze) in 1838.
Fortunately his 2nd wife was a Dulieu descendant, so have been able to source some information from researchers on that large family.

Ellen

Wendy

Wendy Report 24 May 2010 12:57

Yes Ellen, that is correct for his first marriage.
I added the link to the thread that covers all of the information regarding Frederic- I don't want any of you wasting your time looking for previously found information, but thankyou for looking.

Wendy

Wendy Report 24 May 2010 12:55

My bad ..again. She was witness at his 2nd marriage in 1838.
There were 3 children (sons) to his first marriage, and a questionable daughter born 'between' marriages.
No Sarah's though.
