Hi Dee,you found earlier on in the thread, that in the 1911 census their son Thomas park was born in 1907 and was 4 years old,so according to that census this was their only child before Hilda was born.Unless I've missed something somewhere.

Jim,

That's excellent news, I'm so pleased for you.

Now may come the VERY difficult part regarding William Park, it may also cost you a few more pennies also.

I think if I were you I would order the marriage certificate for Mary J Park to Bertram Eltringham, this should state that she was a widow.......... however that may or may not be true, but we need to clear it up so we have definate dates to work with for a possible death for William Park.

I would also consider ordering the other birth certificate for the other Park Craggs child in 1915, as the birth of this child was possibly within 12 months of Hilda's mother having her......... this probably caused much of her depression???? This certificate may hold clues as to whether William Park was on the scene or not?!

As to find a definate WW1 Service record for him, I haven't been able to pin one down for him, but the D L I museum hopefully maybe able to help you there.

I suppose Jim that really now it's up to you in how far we can go and how far you want to push this. If (which it looks like she did) Mary Jane did remarry then you no doubt have other family members out there who maybe unaware of your existence, it's food for thought as they may have answers to what exactly happened regarding your mothers "adoption" and William Park?

Well what a journey we've had, I'm really pleased that what you originally started off by asking as been sorted... however I'm sure there are probably more questions now than ever.

Dee xx

Hi All, just to let you know the birth certificate came this morning.

when &where born. 25/7/1914: 129 Rose street Redheugh Gateshead.
name Hilda, -girl
name&surname of father- Blank
name, surname, maiden name mother: Mary jayne Park /Craggs.-No Occupation
registered 2nd September 1914.

Rose Street ,was just around the corner from Vine Street, and in those days it was a close community and everybody knew each other.
So the big question now is with no farther mentioned, was Hilda born out of weddlock??. Mary 2 children ,no job no money.Did William Park decide to leave his family and go off to war before or after this birth?? . Maybe One of you lovely people may be able to find his enlistment dates and details into the Durham Light Infantry 9th Battallion TA which will give more answers. Both John Pegg and William Park no doubt knew each other and joined the same 9th Battallion TA. If nobody has any luck ,then I am on Holiday last week in August and I will be going to the D L I museum which is only 15 miles from where I live, with all this info to see if they can give me any help.So the Jigsaw is still not quite complete YET.

Regards Jim.

HI Jim

adoptions in those days tended to be informal arrangements, so there may not be any record of it. I have found this site which gives some idea of where records maybe if they exist.
http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk/search/adoptionrecords/

In regard to name chaging, there is no legal requirement to register a name change anywhere, you can use whatever name you like as long as there is no attempt to defraud.

Hello Vicci, I don't get them from the GRO until August the 5th, as soon as I get them I will post on here the Info. Have you had any luck with the adoption record of Hilda Park to Hilda Pegg yet. It would have been her birthday today.

Regards Jim.

Hi Dee, sorry my mistake,my sister has told me that i got it wrong and that joyce wasn't stillborn, you were correct in your assumption. One baby lived 3 weeks and one baby lived about 6 weeks she is not sure which was which. One died of a constriction in the gullet, and the other died of a bone disease. It must have been really hard back then before the N.H.S started.I thank you once again for your dedication and efforts, and this is more peices of the jigsaw past for my Family tree, and answers to questions in my life that I thought I would never Know about. I hope that all the other people who have things missing in their past lives, and leave Messages on this community board ,have the success that YOU ALL have given me,and I know as long as their are people like You, Janey,Victoria ,Ann, out there they will, through your's and their dedication and giving up your own time in helping other people.

Thanks Jim.
