Find Ancestors

Hi,

I am also trying to trace this Edward Smith link back. I am a descedent of his son James born 1812 in Foxley, then James in 1849 North Elmham and Walter (born 1875).

I always knew back to the 1812 James Smith, but only found out the Edward bit through GenesReunited. I find it interesting that it is all based on a LDS member from 1991 with no supporting evidence. I am less inclined to believe this unless it is backed up by some sourced reference.

I think all the info could be found within the records within Norfolk. The Norfolk family history society gave me the following info. Really it is a case of going up to Norfolk and ploughing through the records. I don't live too far away (Hitchin) but it's a case of getting round to it.

Looking for information for Edward Smith and Elizabeth Miller. Both born circa 1779, Bawdeswell, Norfolk and married 1803,Bawdeswell.Sons, John 1808 and Thomas.1814, plus others unknown to me

I have also deleted any other posts I made that were redundant

Just to update my progress. A lovely lady called Anne has helped immensely on the Dye side- back to 1700's, but the dreaded Smith side is a harder nut to crack.

Janey,I didn't infer it was anyone else 's fault, but I cannot shuffle papers quickly with one hand. I do my best and that's all I can do. As you said, it was stress and trying to keep things off my mind that got me started. FT and baking!! Again I apologize for my errors. I am finally catching on to using this board. I honestly appreciate all the help I received here, but I do not take kindly to being accused of purposely giving incorrect information Thank goodness my eyesight was not severely affected.

Most, if not all, people have problems to contend with, Alan. That includes many of the helpers here. One of the women who helped me most with bits of my own tree was dying of cancer at the time. I didn't know, because Lewella never told us. Just for example. I have vision problems because of repeated eye surgery myself. In case you wanted to know.

I understand the pleasure that family history brings to people with various problems. One of our assiduous helpers here took this up when their own spouse was dying, for a relief from the stress, for example.

[My point here was that *people who help* also have problems and also benefit from the distraction from them ... but not from wasting time and effort on duplicate threads and incorrect "facts". May I also add that helpers who choose to contribute privately rather than in the thread do other members no favours, since no one else knows that info has been found or what it is.]

My problem was with the fact that you were posting multiple threads about the same family, with incorrect "facts" that people (myself included) were trying to track down information about. That isn't *anyone else's fault*.

I would be happy to hear from anyone to help completion of my tree. The fact that I am physically disabled does not reduce my desire to continue my search. I need to shuffle papers and type with one hand because of a stroke. Tree search is one of the small pleasures I can still have.

Progress is being made on my recovery and my tree.A special thanks to those who have sent personal messages to me instead of plugging up the board I do not need pity!! Just realize that some of us have our problems to contend with. I have no desire to preface my posts with "I am disabled" and there is no need to have a frivolous squabble on here either

Could someone please see if they can find parents of John Smith b. 1808 so I can get back one more generation. They possibly lived in Norwich proper or surrounding area. Diss, Bawdswell, or Pentney for example. He may have had a brother Thomas

You will find that most ages are out by at least 1 to 2 years and sometimes a lot more.

I think the Dye connection is proved by the information on the census of 1851

Thank you Barbara, The puzzle is getting closer to completion. I suppose that the writing on the census formscauses a difference for birth. For James It might be hard to distinguish a 7 from a 9 in 1837 or 1839By subtracting his age from the census year, I had assumed he was born 1837
