Maybe the best way to go backwards in the search for the parents and siblings of Marmaduke Sutton born about 1714

is to find a Sutton will dated before 1700. In Northampton/Rutland Probate

or Cambridgeshire

thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the spellings

Looks like they are all one and the same family.
So now I can go about finding Ann's death record.
Cheers at last.

Annette, Check the census under the name of Utteridge, There is a John & Ann that fits. Thought at 1st a mistranscription (it is on 1871 census, name of Uttendge) but definately reads Utteridge. Cannot find a marriage of Utteridge on free bmd. No trees for Ann Sutton. Only Utteridge I can find on 1881 census from Newborough is John.
Another mystery for you.

Can't remember where the other Mary came from now, it was Northants but not Newborough. I've enjoyed finding your people as I have said before it is all in the area I grew up in. In fact following Mary on census I see she lived in Dogsthorpe Road, Peterborough, this is just round the corner from where I lived. Wonder if the house is still there, will have to have a look. A mixture of big & little houses in that street. Bridget lived in Eastfield Road, Peterborough, know that street as well. Lots of Pedley's around here (Cambs) as well. Still can pass photos onto you if you want. 1 of them is Ellen Sutton (Peter & Ellen Brigg's daughter) & husband but you may already have it.

Im sure the Mary you found is the correct one

there is a connection on the same page with Harriet Pedley.

Mary's sister ANNE born 1824, in 1841 census, was a servant, aged 17 yrs,
in the household of James Pedley, wife Charlotte, daug Harriet.

Dont worry
I just worked out how to do the volume page search.

moonbi Report 21 Mar 2011 01:04

Oh Hilary, you are so smart.

I too looked through all the census with those mens names and couldnt find a match with Mary born Newborough.1820

How did you get to "same page" for free bdm?
I use free bdm a lot ; but I dont know how to do that.
So Mary married Isaac James June qtr 1846.
What a marathon, pretty sure it must be her.
From what I can see there is only one other Mary ( the one married in 1841) and she was born in ?

Thanks you need to get a gift from AUS. what would you like?

A couple months ago I had contact with a gr member here about Bridget Sutton family with John Smith. As this member is related only through the Smith line, didnt have any more details other than the marriage. But I wasnt sure if this was the correct Bridget, as there are a couple more of that name in the greater area.

But now Im thinking this Bridget, IS my ggfathers sister.
No wonder I was sidetracked.

Best wishes Annette

Hi ,PHEW! think I may have found your Mary on census. After a bit of digging, have a look on Free bmd. A Mary Sutton is on same page as Isaac James June qtr. 1846. They can be found on following census. Mary James was born in Newborough abt 1820. Still going on 1891 census. Maybe earlier Mary Sutton married in 1841 not her as I could'nt find her on census as coming from Newborough with all male names on that page. Looks like Mary's death Sept qtr. 1891 aged 70.
Bridget married 16th June 1868, Newborough. Death March qtr. 1915 registered in Peterborough.

thanks so very much Hilary.
its a blessing, what you have done.

These ladies are the sisters of my GG grandfather Peter Sutton who came to Australia in 1860.

Its amazing that only one child of a particular family migrated. But I think that the reason is Peter's wife Ellen Briggs. Another of her family had come to Qld a few years earlier.

Sorry I dont have access to Ancestry, however if these trees are about Newborough Sutton, then they are very likely my branch of the wider family name.

Ive just got to find out how to contact them

I will follow the Gray and Truss family through he census now. I had wondered if that was how I had to go forward with this search.

Hi Moonbi, do you have access to Ancestry. There is a Public Tree on there for Ruth Sutton from Newborough. Looks like Rachel was her sister. Ruth was married to John Gray. Sorry I don't know how to copy & put it on here. Maybe someone else cleverer than me can help you with it. A few other Sutton trees from Newborough on there as well.
Hilary.
