Hi Thank you. This is I believe the Bertie Rowland I am looking for. I do have a death cert. Which you have now confirmed is The wrong one. Is there anywhere I can view or send for Army record's. On Bertie... Gertrude Mary Rowland is my grandmother. She married My grandfather in 1908. Her name then was Webb.My mother is Queenie Mary Gertrude Webb. I did no her Sibling's. But Gertrude Left the family home abt 1916/17. when Queenie was abt 3 yrs. I would like to find out what happened to her. She had lost brother Bertie and also brother in Law Henry Webb who had been sent home from France and died at home. His Wife having just given birth to his Daughter. They were all living very close before and during the war. Gertrudes Husband was still away I believe during this time. Could you tell me if it is possible to get the Army record's o fBertie and also Alfred John Webb my Grandfather. After the war he did bring up his children with the help Of Henry's wife. As I never knew any of them and nobody spoke abt it. IT might Shed some light on what happened to Gertrude. Been doing this for year's now. And still no closer to finding her.

Didn't you notice the possible death for Gertrude?

Joyce

Joyce Report 31 Jul 2013 16:21

Hi Thank's again I do have the Death cert for Matilda Rowland. the witness to this was her daughter Elizabeth Rowland who I believe was her eldest daughter who was not with the family in 1891. At the time of Matilda's death she gave her address as Hyde Park Garden's London. Believe she was in service. Matilda died at The Cottage Hospital Clacton on Sea. That is why Bertie was living with Gertrude and family in 1911.

Hi Chris Thank you for the above Information. Another place to search. Will see if I can find any contacts from Australia.. Maybe that's where Gertrude went. Would there be a shipping list to say who went out there. And when.. Not to good at this But if I go to the web sites you list. Could I find out if they had children. I do know that when I was very small I used to have parcel's from an Auntie Wendy. In Australia. But they ceased. And no other mention of her. Thank you again for you help. Hopefully I'm getting closer to finding more Family and what happened to Gertrude.

Have you checked 'Search All Member Trees', under 'Search, top right of page here?, there looks to be other Members with Gertrude.

As yet, haven't located William going to Aus.

Thanks to Chris for sending me the link :-)

Hi Joyce

William was here by the time of WWI as he enlisted. His next of kin was his sister Miss E A Rowland of 16 Lowndes Square, London S.W. (Elizabeth I assume). He was 30 and a single man when he enlisted in Oct 1915 (so this also means Elizabeth was still single then). He was discharged medically unfit. If you go to www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/ you will find his digitised service record:

ROWLAND William Frederick : Service Number - Depot : Place of Birth - Colchester England : Place of Enlistment - Townsville QLD : Next of Kin - (Sister) ROWLAND E A

I believe I have found Wm's emigration. There is a good match for him arriving in Qld on 18 July 1907 aboard Omrah aged 22. No other ROWLAND with him. He also appears duplicated as ROWLANDS.
