bob1 Report 9 Feb 2011 10:48

The adress on teh birth certificate is given only as Sandhill, Tonbridge Rural (no street or house number). The adress on his marriage certificate in 1932 is 16 Golding street, Tonbridge Wells.

That happens a lot.... I am coming to the conclusion that there are some interesting issues here that I just can't quite unearth. I am hoping that once the 1921 census is out I may be able to get a hit and start again!

Barbara Report 9 Feb 2011 11:01

The mother (Greenwood) in the 1911 found by Catherine looks to be the mother of Henry Smith. Could this have been a second marriage for her?

I've just googled Sandhill, Tonbridge Rural and came across another thread on this site.
It stated that the address on the birth cert. she had was also Sandhill, Tonbridge Rural, father was a hawker and turns out the parents were Romany Gypsies?

bob1

bob1 Report 9 Feb 2011 11:08

Don't think so Barbara as Musgrove is th other name on the birth certificate

thanks for all the work this morning - its great to know there are people out there who are willing to help - even if we don't make progress on this particular problem.

Catherine Report 9 Feb 2011 11:28

As there is no father's name on the birth cert. then it is possible that Henry was illegitimate, in which case it is very likely he was born in a Workhouse.
Don't know where to look for Workhouse records, but could be worth looking into.

Dea

Dea Report 9 Feb 2011 11:49

As I mentioned above - the records for this particular Workhouse are at :
