My grandfather was an Ebdon from Devon and was put into a childs home by his mother, his older brother was given up for adoption, however his mother did take my grandfather back some years later but never his brother. i was wanting to find more information about the Ebdons.
My grandfathers name was Leonard Charles Ebdon born 1918 Devon, hie mothers name was Elizabeth Ebdon she was never married when she had either of the boys.

As both sons were born after 1911 census, I don't know how you could trace the mother and her antecedents.

Do you have either of the birth certs? If you do, who registered the births?

Had the mother married when she took your grandfather back to live with her?

Are these all brothers, or just a co-incidence do you think?

Have you got an address on a birth cert? There are very few Elizabeth Ebdon's in Devon 1911, but of course she might have come from elsewhere.

The boys wre born before 1911 one in 1915 and the other in 1918, are we sure that Douglas Ebdon & Frederick Ebdon are also related as i only know of two brothers Leonard & Ivan.
The mother Elizabeth was born in 1898 im not to sure where she was in 1911, she died in 1987/9 in maidenhead Berkshire.

Could Douglas & Frederick been cousins to Ivan & Leonard by any chance.

Yes she did marry later and her surname changed to Sellers.

When she lived in devon the address was 28 Alfington Road, Ottery St Mary, Devon.

I remember as a child going to visit her on a sunday afternoon and she lived in Maidenhead but i was only small at the time.

I do remember my mum saying something about her father being called Walter so this could be a good start.

No her father was called Walter not John, she was known as Bessie but her name was Elizabeth.
