I please need help trying to find a surname for Mary born 1831c in Bitton, Glousetershire, Keynsham Parish. She married John Harvey b1826 in about 1844. Census and papers that I have of John Mary and their children only show Mary's name. Any help or pointers please.
PS - I m struggling to post on GR tonight, its taking forever, I am at my computer and not gone. Thanks :) Lynda

Hello Lynda - was she really only 13 when she married? Where did this marriage take place (roughly)

Could you give details here of the census records you have found them in?

Can you give us the children's names, places and years of birth so we can work back?

Thanks Lynda - any years and birthplaces for a few of them?

Where were they in census?

LyndaJane

LyndaJane Report 26 Apr 2011 20:06

In the 1881 census their eldest daughter Mary Anne was 24 yrs old, make mw think they were married about 1854 as opposed to 1844.

So it looks like it was Mary Abbott:

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1844
>>ABBOTT Mary Keynsham 11 149
>>HARVEY John Keynsham 11 149
MAY James Keynsham 11 149
STOCKWELL Elizabeth Keynsham 11 149
Williams Anna Keynsham 11 149
WOOD James Keynsham 11 149

Birth certificate of one of the children will confirm mother's maiden name

EDIT - looks like we crossed posts and you now think a later marriage?

LyndaJane

LyndaJane Report 26 Apr 2011 20:08

All children born in Bitton - Parish Keynsham
Appears Mary (mother) was too.
John born in Ilminster (Whitelackington)

LyndaJane Report 26 Apr 2011 20:10

I know John lived in Keynsham parish, census shows his sister moved there too, also shows her children there as well as them geting married there.

LyndaJane Report 26 Apr 2011 20:11

I only say later marriage, as it seems an awfully young age and i was quenring this to myself too. - I will follow up on the abbott surname and see what i can find. thanks so much for that.

There is also marriage John Harvey to Mary Ann Davies, Cheltenham Q1 1849, GRO 11/229

LyndaJane

LyndaJane Report 26 Apr 2011 20:14

1881 census shows Mary as being age 50, so i guess she must have been 13 - oh dear!! even though the children born much later.?!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 26 Apr 2011 20:15

Lynda, safest and most accurate way to get her name is to get one of the children's birth certificates - very easy to follow the wrong line otherwise.

Neil - I am not from England, where is Cheltenham, in Somerset?

One more question - how do I go about getting a birth certificate for one of them.
