Phew!! Thankyou for clearing that up Christina!

Not that it helps.........but at least we are on the same wave length!

ChristinaS Report 11 Jun 2011 14:47

Don't worry - I'm quite sure it's me and not you!

What I meant was ......... Sarah and Mary Saunders, the boarders with the Randalls, are not the same Sarah and Mary who are with James Saunders in 1861.

That doesn't mean that I don't think your Mary is the one boarding with the Randalls ...... because I DO think she is.

The problem I have, though, is whereabouts are the boarding Saunders on the 1861 census?

Hope that's clearer. You're by no means the first person to tell me I don't explain myself properly. I don't see it myself!

computer crashed !

Sarah Saunders with the Randall family has 'lost' 10 years. She is 38 in 1871 and 38 in 1861, but perhaps an error ?

PricklyHolly Report 11 Jun 2011 14:26

Please don't be afraid to tell me if i am going loopy.............but

If that is James and Sarah's children in 1871.....Mary with married sister Emma.

Why can't that be my Mary lodging with the Randall's in 1871?

Be gentle with me!!

PricklyHolly Report 11 Jun 2011 14:11

Hi Choccy, that is where i got confused...........or even more confused i should say.

The only glimmer of hope is the 1871......!!

I appreciate your time.............Thankyou.

ChristinaS Report 11 Jun 2011 14:08

These are James and Sarah Saunders' children on the 1871 census.

Lymington - Queen Street

John Daney - head - 53 - Devon
Emma Daney - wife - 22 - Milford
Mary A. Saunders - wife's sister - 14 - Lymington
Ellen Saunders - wife's sister - 2 - Lymington

So this Mary can't be the one who is boarding with the Randalls.

looks as though that James Saunders was registered on the 1861 census twice - once with his family (wife Sarah) and a visitor with the Hicks family !

Hi Christina........i am just wondering what makes you think that the 1861 and 1871 records are not connected?
Although i do see that it states Mary was born Lymington on the 1861 and Eling on the 1871!

Going back to what Maryb said regarding that 1871 census..........it is quite possible that it does actually read..........Unmarried!

Having said that.........i wonder if she was married and this is husband James.......

From process of elimination, your Mary Saunders seems to be the one with her mother, Sarah, boarding with the Randall family on the 1871 census.

But, where oh where are those two on the 1861 census?

They're not the same family as the Sarah and Mary with James Saunders as the head.
