Oohhh Dear !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just noticed that the marriage which Helen has posted above shows James Findley Wilson's father as JOHN !!

The christening we have and everything else we are following gives his father as THOMAS !!!

Something is not right here :-S

Hi Rebecca,
I have been looking into my daughter-in-law's tree. She has Findlay ancestors from the Kilmarnock/Mauchline/Sorn area.
I have Francis Findlay b. c1790 married Agnes Martin b.c1793 - Francis was a farmer.
Their son Hugh Findlay b. 1818 married Elizabeth McFadzean b. 1828
marriage 24.11.1863 - Kilmarnock 597/00 175
Hugh was a gardener.
Their son Hugh Adam McFadzean Findlay b. 18.07.1869 Lonnport, Kilmarnock 597/00 0543 married Jeanie McLanachan b.1875 in 1894 Kilmarnock 597/00 0067
Hugh was a marine engineer and Jeanie a domestic servant.
Jeanie died 1899 age 24 death Kilmarnock 597/00 0014
Hugh remarried on 17.07.1901 to Janet Elizabeth McCarlie of Sorn, Ayr
Their daughter Elizabeth McFadzean Findlay b. Glasgow 1912 married Edward John Cumming b. Jun Q 1914 Edmonton, London in Stoke Newington Jun Q 1936.
Does any of this connect with your Findlay's?
I have more information about the wives families if you would like it.

Hi Dea, well just been runnning through all the info and i can see we have two different fathers here, something is not quite right, not really sure what to think now! Perhaps he was Thomas john or vice versa? However i know the marriage to be correct. Perhaps there was another James Findlay Wilson born in 1827 ? I wonder if his first marriage can be found to give us some more clues, it states he was widowed when he married Ann Elizabeth Foreman. This has really thrown me!
Barry, im sorry i dont regonise any of thenmaes so far but i will keep them in find for future reference! Thank you everyone for all your help.Rebecca

Potty

Potty Report 8 Jul 2011 15:34

The James in the 1881 gives a birthplace of Lanarkshire; the baptism with the father Thomas is in Ayrshire.

Different fathers and different POBs - does look like two different men. Do you have James's marriage cert to confirm his father's name? The familysearch record could be mistranscribed.

Potty

Potty Report 8 Jul 2011 15:36

In 1891, James POB given as Glasgow, which is in Lanarkshire.

Im afraid i dont have the marrige cert as it isnt my family, a friends. It looks like you could be right! Two diferent James' born about the same year with excatly the same name, which is quite unusual with the middle of Findlay. Thank you so much again for your help guys. So really if i can find a James with a father John we could be heading somewhere or James' first marriage!

Potty

Potty Report 8 Jul 2011 16:15

I am afraid there are lots of James Wilson with father's John. The nearest I can find in 1851 is this one, age is a bit out. Both are mason's (well, masons and sculptors both work with stone):

Thank you Potty, always good to have some possibilities. Just wish he had used his middle name in all the census records, would have been easier on us then !!! xxx

Dea Report 8 Jul 2011 19:33

Back now - I have had grand-daughter after school and just taken her home.

The 1851 with John who was a stone mason was the nearest I could find also !!

Just to confirm that the marriage cert has NOT been mistranscribed as I have looked at the image of the actual Parish Register. It is quite clearly John !
