Thats really intersting Shirley thankyou, think i might order some marriage certificates, its really confusing but has to be the same Mary and Walter because the childrens names and ages coincide perfectly

I came across this thread in google search. Mary Ann Lambert is my great grandmother and her two marriages are documented in my tree on gru. I have copies of both her marriage certificates - she claims to be a spinster on both !
Certificates can be revealing; the marriage certificate for Walter Robert Haigh and Mary Lambert shows John Crookes as a witness and this info helped me to find Walter in the 1861 census at Chapeltown. Living as Walter Robert Cookes with John and Ann Crookes whose marriage was in 1858 (Dec Sheffield 9c 384).
