jax Report 6 Jan 2012 16:11

I have been thinking aout this and feel I am back at school :-D. I am a standard member £10 every six months just to come on here to help other members.
I do not have a tree on here and am not that interested in the one I have elsewhere.I have found enough, that is all that matters to me.
Do GR realise that some of us do this because we are retired or disabled and it gives us something to do? If I could still work it would'nt bother me.

I really dont feel inclined to give them anymore money when there are other places I can go for free and not get treated like this because there is someone who has got it in for me.
There has been occasions where someone has been rude to me, but I have not reported their posts because I would rather others see what a nasty piece of work this individual is....someone else has then reported them so it looks like it was me?? Maybe this is the person who is doing it? I once had a post reported for saying "duplicate thread" and giving a link to the other thread...and it was removed??Funny thing is all these reported posts seem to happen in the early hours of the morning
Anyway maybe I will go back to playing poker online instead

Well I can't get my breath !!! What is happening to this site !!!???

And why can't it say on a reported post or thread ===

"This post has been requested for review" by "boardname -------" because " the reason for post being reported ---------"

This would then STOP all malicious reporters. Genuine reporters shouldn't mind their name and "reason for" going on

OK so we can't advertise anything to sell etc.which is understandable (well GR isn't ebay is it) So why all the "Flashing" adverts on this site ? the one today on this page is for "the big clean" at Asda. (this is on HelenHedgehog thread-- on here its GALA BINGO !!)--- Well of course we all know the answer to this------advertisers will be paying big money to advertise on here. And of course the other answer is "Do as we say, not as we do" !!!

Jude please do as Sylvia has advised, and remember we are all behind you,

Something funny is going on here (but not laughable) and its time GR sorted it out---their reputation is at stake here, and they may find one day that all they have left on this site is "flashing adverts" and NO PAYING MEMBERS.

Most of us do "Look ups" on other sites---choose if they are free sites or paying sites----and use our findings to post on GR boards, so what is the problem in saying which other Geneology sites we use. ? OR do GR not want any requests on the boards answerd ?

Oh well !! Best wishes to all from a very bewilded and upset

George - if that is a request for help then why not start a new thread (the request could get overlooked here!).

Just go back to Find Ancestors and use the "add topic" button towards the top right.

(sorry if it was just an example!!)

Jude

I've just posted on that thread ...... and suggested you email [email protected]

ask them why the post was RR'd, say you thought it was innocuous, and you would like to have the reason

....... Estelle has posted on threads on Suggestion to say Support will tell you why a pm has been reported or removed, and will usually reply within 24 hours (or sooner).

There is something funny going on

but please don't leave because of some idiot!

No Jax...just continuing could result in your eventual removal from the site. There is also a load of blurb about how they take each report seriously and if I think there are still posts that similarly contrevene to report them.

Anyway I have had another post requested for review - I simply asked whether there were any names being searched for in a thread that is all about another site (even the title)...and mine is the only one pulled.

Suspect someone is being malicious...so deffo not posting to help any more and might not ask for help

I also got a reply to my email regarding both my thread, "Careful, Folks", and the other posts that were removed.

" We recieved multiple reports of some posts on the message boards so had to be seen to be taking action. In hindsight some posts were removed that shouldn't have been and for this we do apologise for any distress caused."

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have responded asking if my thread and other psots can be re-instated if they were removed in error ...... and suggesting that major changes be made in the RR process, including having a real live GR staff memmber read ALL posts requested for review before removing them.

Dear All...GR replied...seems my crime was to post about "another site" and they felt it was more appropriate to post on that site's forum. Stupid thing is of the 17 posts that remain...ten mention other sites......so New Year Resolutions ares "not to reveal my sources" and "not to get involved on the Genealogy chat board". It seems that you can only chat about genealogy......

Anyway you'll all have to put up with me a bit longer :-)

Denise - my mum's maternal line are Hydes. Her mother was born in Birmingham but the rest of the line came from Worcestershire (mostly Malvern area). My gg-grandfathers siblings spread their wings a bit...one brother to Dorset, a sister to Nottinghamshire (became Tansley) and one appears to have emigrated to Australia...and he will be the subject of my next post. For today I had his marriage certificate and it is not to the person I thought it was to!!

Jude

it will be interesting to hear what reply you get!

IGP has already received an email saying that his posting should not have been removed, and an apology

I'm waiting for a reply to my email wanting to know why they removed my thread Careful Folks mid afternoon on the 4th

I'm another who is so appalled at what they did on Monday, and then said in the emails to you all that I may well also be walking.

“CHEERS” to you all

So pleased to hear you are staying, Jude.

Jax, does GR not realise what they will be loosing if you walk !! ?? Let me remind them—they would be loosing yet another PAYING MEMBER who is a great researcher who uses her skills NIGHT and DAY to help other GR MEMBERS on these boards.

I know this has been said before, but, if the “reporters” of posts were NAMED—with a reason for them reporting the post-- then it would stop a lot of silly / unnecessary reports,

I am sure if the report was for a genuine reason then the reporter wouldn’t mind being named.
(I have never reported a post, but if I ever felt I needed to, I know I would also put on the thread that I had and why)

All the best to you all

Glad to hear you're staying Jude. I'm just a plain old lager drinker, me.

Would be lovely, but totally impossible, to get together for a few glasses of whatever's your tipple.

So virtual drinkies it has to be!

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 4 Jan 2012 19:09

Little bit before my time thankfully...but yeah!!!!

Have a look at the Capewell thread...it's a real conundrum and is ultimately the sort of thing that GR boards survive on! And if they antagonise willing amateurs such as myslef.....then those people are going to withdraw into their shells - as I might do - and just concentrate on their own trees. So the help network ends.....
