I can't find any trace of Milly (Muley on one occasion) after the 1911 Census when she lived in Essex with her parents, John and Elizabeth. After Elizabeth's death, John went to live in Berkshire but I've looked everywhere for Milly and come up with nothing.

I now wonder whether she married under an assumed name or changed her Christian name.

Can anyone help me with Milly, please?

Yes, Herbert was my grandfather's brother and was Milly's brother too. Herbert died at the Battle of Jutland.

I don't know the informant of Elizabeth's death but it could have been John, my great-grandfather.

The informant of John's death in Berkshire was his son-in-law, surname Batt. I have a copy of John's death certificate.

Still no sign of Milly, though. I've tried Amelia, Minnie (there is one but she's accounted for elsewhere in censuses) and now I can't think of any other variation of the name Milly.

How about Millicent or Mildred? Worth a try.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 4 Mar 2012 14:43

Was there more than one daughter then ? who did ?? Batt marry?

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 4 Mar 2012 14:46

It was John Linge, Shirley. There was more than one daughter and John Linge married twice - after my great-grandmother died John married Elizabeth - Milly's mother.

Now, Wisechild, I'll give Millicent and Mildred a try to see if I can trace Milly.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 4 Mar 2012 14:51

No Millicent anywhere but I found a marriage for a Mildred M Linge in Ware in 1929. However, I also found a birth for her in Ware so she's not Milly.

Yes, Shirley, that's the one according to the Death Certificate.

Still no sign of Milly - it's very strange.

Not seeing her at all. Wonder if she lived with someone and didnt marry so her death would be under another surname which isnt traceable back.

You may be right, Shirley.

I think I'll give it up for now.

Thanks.

Have you looked on search trees, theres two others who have her in their tree

Also it may be a bit of a trek but you could try births with mmn Linge from 1911 and the then look for the corresponding marriages. to elimate them from being a child of Milly, and then see who is left . It may mean getting some certs though which may not be worth it .

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 5 Mar 2012 18:43

Yes, Shirley, I've looked at the two trees you write about - I have access to them. In my possession I also have two more trees sent to me by two different Linges - both have Milly's birth and nothing else.

I've searched for marriages for Milly/Millie/variations and Lily/variations and Amelia, Mildred and Millicent until about 1970 (in case she married very late) - and nothing.

I'm now in touch with a gentleman from an East Essex group who is going to see what he has on the Linges. I'll let you know if I get any Joy.

Thank you.

Joy - do you know Milly's exact date of birth?

We could then do a search for death records on Ancestry, first name Milly with that birth date.
