OK then it looks like I'll have to get hold of the Birth Cert. from the Uk
many thanks to everyone for the effort put in

jax Report 25 Mar 2012 03:29

I do not think the 1861 census Lynski posted is your William and Sarah because that couple are still with the mother in 1871 with no children,

I cannot find them anywhere in 1861/71 you need that birth cert for James as it will tell you sarahs maiden name and there maybe an address for 1871

Arthur

Arthur Report 25 Mar 2012 02:39

I don't have the birth cert. of James or any of the others
I have to get them from the Uk and I live in NZ and it can take
2-3 weeks.
I have the marriage of William son of James to Eliza Reynolds
and that is all. thats how I know the fathers name is James.
From 1881 and after I'm ok it's prior to 1881 that I find
problems.

PM from Arthur -

Hi
I do have the marriage of James, son of William and their address in Gateshead in 1911 ( Pine St.) which confirms James birth in Sunderland
the others in the family that I know of have been born in Northumberland and Cumberland.

Arthur

I thought you wanted to find William and Sarah Before 1881?

Can you please answer our questions about the certs

Arthur

Arthur Report 24 Mar 2012 20:12

The 1901 census for James's family is the same except for the addition
of another daughter in about 1904 and they'd moved from Benwell to Gateshead.

Stuart,
I asked for Arthur to post the censuses just to find out how he had worked back, to see what was definitely true and what was speculation. (Particularly the ages of William and Sarah)
I wanted to know, if possible, the family in 1911, 1901, 1891, 1881,(that he implied he had found) and that he had birth and marriage certificates for the relevant people.
If he has not got James Sharp's 1871 birth certificate then he is missing vital information.

jax

jax Report 24 Mar 2012 17:04

Do you have James's birth cert? if not it would be an idea to purchase it rather than guess the marriage of his parents

In the 1881 census they both mention they were born in Wigton in Cumberland she says she's 48 ie born 1833 and he says 46 ie born
1835.
I was looking for a partner called Sarah and came across Sarah Miller
and a marriage of 1850 in Cockermouth but that would only make him
about 15/16 of course the census taker could have written down the wrong age.
James married Annie Robinson in Ulverston in Cumberland.

Patchem had asked poster for "who James 1871 married and children or post the censuses for him" Hoping there might be something to link the earlier and later finds i suppose.
I can't see any of the family in 1871 which might help.

Stuart

I think Arthur has all the info re James it is before 1881 he is looking for

just to add this is the marriage Arthur has for James and Annie

Marriages Sep 1896 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROBINSON Annie Ulverston 8e 1487
Sharp James Ulverston 8e 1487

jax

jax Report 24 Mar 2012 16:22

From your tree on ancestry this is the marriage you have

Marriages Sep 1850 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miller Sarah Cockermouth 25 69
Sharp William Cockermouth 25 69

Do you have evidence that this is their marriage? as already mentioned if he was born 1835 or 1837 he may have been a bit young to marry

Could you please reply on the thread by adding to the bottom of all the posts.

Yes I know you had the record I gave...I added it to help us find him, as other details help like place of birth plus the dob you gave as 1832 is a bit different to the 1835 and 1837 that has been found for William.

Where did you find him born 1832?

Could you say who James (1871) married, and children, or post the censuses for him?
Thanks.
