As you can see at the above URL, in addition to the US federal census, there are also some state censuses online.

Here's MC's NY 1905 Burkes, and, I think, Hannah:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/SPX6-GFZ
[423 10th Ave]
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/SPF7-L6H
[142 W 80th Ave]

US 1910 - magnify 4 clicks, then save image:

Some of the headers are quite faint - for details, see the blanks at:

Geraldine, I've yet to find a shipping entry that I can definitely say is him.

A better bet might be to find his mother and two siblings - it looks as though they would have arrived together and presumably they would all have been from the same place. Will look up when I have time.

You're welcome.

EDIT: You can browse images of New York arrivals on FamilySearch

mgnv - you're a star! I've now learned how to find some of my own rellies in NY.

For the record, in 1905 living at 423 10th Avenue were (amongst many others):

Burke, Michael age 40 (c1865) a day laborer, been in US 23 years
Burke, Ellen, age 68 (c1837) does housework, been in US 19 years (mother)
Burke, John, age 28 (c1877) day laborer, in US 19 years (brother)
Burke, Margaret age 30 (c1875) housework, been in US 19 years (sister)

We can now hopefully trace some other records for the family.

You can search 1900 (and view images) at:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_STATES
just pick the appropriate collection. Click on image link to left of transcription.

423 10th Ave sounds like it's Manhattan. On the census image, the street is usually in the left margin

By 1910 she was with another cousin in Mass. Perhaps she was just having a short stay with Michael en route?

1910 United States Federal Census

Name: Hannah Kennedy
Age in 1910: 29
Birth Year: 1881
Birthplace: Ireland
Home in 1910: Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts
Race: White
Gender: Female
Immigration Year: 1903
Relation to Head of House: Cousin
Marital Status: Single
Father's Birthplace: Ireland
Mother's Birthplace: Ireland

Household Members:

Patrick J Kennedy 45 < Kennelman
Mary T Kennedy 18

Further down the page is a John Manley from Canada - wonder if that's how she met William?

Geraldine, go to your first post on this thread and click edit - then amend your heading to include New York, that way it will hopefully catch the eye of one of our American helpers. We may need someone with local knowledge to answer questions like what part of NY 10th Avenue is in.

As for finding Michael on census that is going to be very difficult without knowing his age and occupation as, apart from the 80-odd immigrants during the timescale, there are probably hundreds of others. One of the US helpers may know how to search census by address.

Had hoped to find Michael on a census with Hannah, but that would have been too easy!

1920 United States Federal Census

Name: Hannah Manley
Age: 39
Birth Year: abt 1881
Birthplace: Ireland
Home in 1920: Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts
Race: White
Gender: Female
Immigration Year: 1900 (think 1903 on original image)
Relation to Head of House: Wife
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: William M Manley
Father's Birthplace: Ireland
Mother's Birthplace: Ireland
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Neighbors:

Household Members:
Name Age
William M Manley 40 - a gardener
Hannah Manley 39
Annabel Manley 7
David W Manley 4 [4 3/12]
Alice M Manley 1 [1 6/12]

She was naturalised in 1907.

According to the 1930 census Hannah was 30 when she married so that would have been about 1911, will try to find her on 1910 to see if Michael's around.
