	Mother in law, who has a good memory, has been talking about her extended family, one of whom I’ve been having difficulties with, if someone could possibly help with? It revolves around her great uncle, Ralph Rogers. He was born 11 Apr 1884 North Weston Thame, Oxon (bap 2 Jul 1884 St Mary the Virgin, Thame) He probably married 1906 2Q Aylesbury 3a 1657 to Emily Louisa Sulston. In 1911, they were living at 43 Ashdown Road, Saffron Walden, Essex, occupation Builders' Plumber. Ralph Rogers Age in 1911: 27 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884 Relation to Head: Head Gender: Male Birth Place: Weston, Oxfordshire, England Civil parish: Saffron Walden County/Island: Essex Country: England Street Address: 43 Ashdon Rd, Saffron Walden, Essex Marital Status: Married Occupation: Plumber Building Registration district: Saffron Walden Ralph Rogers 27 Emily Louise Rogers 27 No children at this point. There first born was Ralph G Rogers. Ralph G Rogers Year of Registration: 1915 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun Mother's Maiden Name: Sulston District: Chesterton County: Cambridgeshire Volume: 3b Page: 726 MiL remembers visiting when they lived in Winnersh, Berks, confirmed on British telecom directory 1935. She says there were 2 other children, who’s birth reg seem to be AWOL born before 1924. Betty who was old enough to be a WAAF in WW2, and Sydney/Sidney who was the ‘baby’ of the family, but again born before 1924 (she thinks). There was a considerable age gap between Ralph G and Sidney. >>>>>>It’s these last 2 children as above whom I need help with. <<<<<<< It’s possible that Ralph the father died Ralph Rogers Birth Date: abt 1884 Date of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1947 Age at Death: 63 Registration district: Reading Inferred County: Berkshire Volume: 6a Page: 72 With a possible corresponding Probate entry Ralph Rogers Probate Date: 25 Nov 1947 Death Date: 28 Sep 1947 Death Place: Reading Registry: Oxfordshire, England Of Hungerford Drive, Reading to Elizabeth Jane Steel, spinster. If this does relate to Ralph Rogers, her grt Uncle, I've no idea who the executor is. Help! Added 19 Aug 2012 - Am now in contact with close relatives of Sidney who is fillling in the details. :-D

	Ralph (senior) is in another person's tree on here. Presumably you have been in contact with them? Added: But they do not appear to have Emily, so probably no use.

	Thank you Poolie Girl - well done. Patchem - I'll check that out.. Edit - there are 3 search tree results, all of whom I've been in contact at some point. I'll have to have a delve and see if I can access their trees. 2nd edit - none of them have anything other than the birth. :-0

	They have different entry numbers - wouldn't they be sequential if they were twins? At least it is food for thought. Thank you Rose.

Member Since: April 2004 Posts: 1,366 Send Message	I'd consider the possibility that Betty and Sidney were 'adopted' children. If a relative died or was unable to cope their children could be integrated into remaining family. Explore any siblings of Ralph senior and Emily.

	More and more mysterious! It looks as if an analysis of the bank account might be in order. Edit - I might ask for a search for 'Betty' with father's name Ralph. At least that ought to sort one out, then your suggestion of an amalgamated family is possible, I'd wondered if the mysterious executor Elizabeth Jane Steel might be Betty

	Perhaps the others were adopted. It seems likely there were some fertility issues seeing as the first child was born 9 years after the marriage. Rose

	That's certainly a possibility Rose. MiL would have been too young to know if they were adopted.

	Did Ralph G even survive? Births Jun 1915 Rogers Ralph G Sulston Chesterton 3b 726 Deaths Jun 1916 Rogers Ralph G 0 Kingston 2a 501 Can't see any other Ralph G births around then and no other deaths for the one born in 1915. Rose

	I think I looked for WW1 records at some point, but couldn't find one. Its worth having another look. There was also the ER just before and after WW2, but I couldn't track down where the Winnersh ones are held - its County and Constituancy borders which are the problem there. At the moment I'm tossing up whether to ask for a search for Betty father Ralph, or order the 1947 Probate. All the ideas are wonderful - thank you

	That's true Rose, although why a different surname and a spinster? Are divorcees refered to as spinsters unless she was a friend? There is only one way to find out - cough up £6 - lol. Thank you
