thank you rootgatherer,

please accept my apologies a si had pm'd kucinta with info and mentioned that mUm had a little sister joyce who passed 2 years in east london. a friend of mine went there and took sum pics but couldnt get right inside as there was a locked gate, but nice tohave it just the same..

this is all confusing in my head as i dont remember if i mentioned i didnt grow up with myfamily, and wondered where my mother went before and after she had me and my older brother anthony (tony) she also had our step sister angela.
He wasnt a very nice person he brought alot of of violence in .. i hated going there when he was there but was forced to by the home.. anyway i have found info he was in 27 ellingham road w12 london, ye i remember that place,, i want to find out if he was living with laura at the time my bro and i were born?
Before he died i saw him and asked if he was in her life when she put me away and he said yes. long story after that ..
i know he used to go to southampton alot?
i have also been to Royal mint street and then i knew why my gran never wanted me to go there it was a dark dingy , unlite slum basically. bless her. blind too.. but cant say i believe she was living there when she had me becasue my certs says DUlwhich hospital.. I know mum went to tulse hill alot and streatham, and kucinta couldnt find her friend Mary siblings ) i think that was her name) so long ago.
maybe i got her name wrong? mmm am not going to go and look through loads of boxes for an 8th birthday card. hehehheh
im wondering if she actually let these peole from the home come and take me or did she go up to ipswich? mmmm

Jaci, Rootgather has already posted previously that Ellen and Laura were at the 59 Royal Mint Street/Square address from 1946, and that they were also there in 1958, and again in 1960.

The online records stop at 1965, but couldn't find Ellen & Laura beyond 1960.

3 Possible births on FreeBMD for siblings of your mother.

One with the mmn as Millar and two with mmn Miller.

Jacki

If you don't delete the exact DOB which you have posted for your brother, your post will be referred to GR, and probably removed from the board

Why don't you get your own birth cert?

Have you made any attempt to find births for possible siblings for your mother?

It appears that there may be some..............

Jacki

Jacki Report 7 Oct 2012 15:49

oh sorry by the way I didn't grow up with my family, so some details are sketchy.

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 4 Oct 2012 15:57

Ancestry has the London Electoral registers 1847-1965, which might help, not sure if they'd cover Streatham.

If you're happy to post your mother's details, someone on here would probably check for you.

Reggie

Reggie Report 4 Oct 2012 15:30

Your birth cert should have an address..............

Do you know your grandmother's maiden name?

Have you looked on freebmd for possible births after the move?

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 4 Oct 2012 15:01

Jacki,

The earliest that your mother's name would appear on an electoral register would be in 1946 when she was 22/3 years old and WW2 was over (No ER's were compiled during WW2). Obviously if she was only 2 years old when she came south then she did not do so alone. Presumably she would have been with her parents. Do you know whether she had any siblings born after the families arrival in London?

Dea

Dea Report 4 Oct 2012 14:52

Is there not an address for her on your birth cert ??

Electoral rolls from about that time are generally not available online but may be available to view either as hard copy or on microfiche in archive offices. I'm not sure that that would help you however as they were recorded by address order rather than by alphabetical order.

You would need to know the address that she was living at, which from the wording of your enquiry you obviously do not at this stage. Another consideration being that it was not until 1927 that most women over the age of 21 were franchised to vote so would appear on electoral registers.
