Find Ancestors

Hit a brick wall with Edward Taylor 1901 census RG13-2870-157-39 Has him married to Mary McCoy. 1891 has him lodging with her. Her two younger children Edward and James (my GF) become Taylors after the marriage, given they were born after Mr McCoys death!!!
Cant find a marriage certificate for clues either,
Wondering if he was married previously given he was 38 when lodging with them???

Any clues where to start please??

Edward 1891-1916 James b1889 died 6/7/55 married Lizzie Dolloway.
Both were registered as McCoy at birth I think.

Karen, I wouldn't worry too much about the age discrepancy 1891 and 1901. It's only 3 years - slightly more than you usually see, but not that unusual. If all other info fits just ignore it.

Sorry if I sound stupid but does that mean what Anncardiff posted was a possibility or has the research done shown that it is the same Edward???
I dont know how to get past that which I can prove to finding which of many possibilities are correct- if you know what I mean. Which is why I asked if those more experienced could tell me how to narrow things down if possible.

Thanks Chris. The family were definately brass casters/ iron workers. The 1871 Census is worth another look as I cant find a 1871 on free cen for McCoy.
Still need to find a definative dob for Edward Taylor to trace any further back :-(
