thanks Jan but the geneologist at B'ham registry office has checked all entries for James and Edward as Taylor and MCoy and none of the parents match so i'm really stuck. If they were born out of wedlock she may have gone home to ?dudley to have them but GRO can't find them ??

Only other possibility as far as I can see:

Births Sep 1888 (>99%)
TAYLOR Edward Aston 6d 237

brummiejan Report 28 Apr 2014 17:49

Looks like there are 3 possibles:

Births Jun 1886 (>99%)
TAYLOR Edward Birmingham 6d 136
TAYLOR Edward Bernard Birmingham 6d 75

Births Sep 1886 (>99%)
TAYLOR Edward Powers Birmingham 6d 165

If your had no middle name, he might be the 1st one, though impossible to be sure.

Resurrecting this post as I have hit a real brick wall.
I am trying to obtain GF birth certificate without luck. James Taylor/ McCoy b 1890 and his brother Edward b1887 (army records have 8/1887). The geneologist at Birmingham could only find a certificate for Annie McCoy with david McCoy as Father.
national GRO search under james Taylor came back negative have reapplied for taylor/mcCoy but dont seem to be getting anywhere.

Thanks Chris. The family were definately brass casters/ iron workers. The 1871 Census is worth another look as I cant find a 1871 on free cen for McCoy.
Still need to find a definative dob for Edward Taylor to trace any further back :-(

(looking again at 1901 image, think Brasscaster is occupation of William)

Sorry if I sound stupid but does that mean what Anncardiff posted was a possibility or has the research done shown that it is the same Edward???
I dont know how to get past that which I can prove to finding which of many possibilities are correct- if you know what I mean. Which is why I asked if those more experienced could tell me how to narrow things down if possible.

Thanks.

Karen, I wouldn't worry too much about the age discrepancy 1891 and 1901. It's only 3 years - slightly more than you usually see, but not that unusual. If all other info fits just ignore it.

Edward 1891-1916 James b1889 died 6/7/55 married Lizzie Dolloway.
Both were registered as McCoy at birth I think.

Can I ask how you found the above so quickly please???
