Ellie, as stated, you really need to get some certificates to get the actual facts. Order from GRO, they cost £9.25.

WHY do people make their tree public if it's only guesswork ?

patchem Report 2 Dec 2012 17:18

If your tree is based on guesswork, you need some certificates.

Births Mar 1856

Wow responses already, cheers!

Well I've not got the certificate but I've got the birth record. It says births in Jan, Feb, March 1929 (family word of mouth reckons his birthday was Jan 31st). The record also says that his mother's maiden name was Gartland.

I've got the record of death for James Spencer in 1960 in Birkenhead as well.

Thank you for the responses.

Yeah I think there are too many Boylans in ireland to make what I'm looking for jump out.

I think it was probably James' father who made the trip over from Ireland, but as I mentioned, I'm really not sure on a birth date, spouse or area where he was from.

Is there a decent way of finding out the records for James' father as I can only find his mother's maiden name from that record sheet?

Thanks again for the help.

I've only just started to look into my family istory so by all means, tell me if I'm just being stupid.

Firm dates - My Grandad - David Boylan was born in 1929 to (pretty sure) James Spencer Boylan (1997-1960). James was possibly known as Jeremy or Jeremiah.

David had bothers (Edward, William and John J) and a sister (Lily/Lilian). I have possible dates for them.

James Spencer POSSIBLY married Lily/Lillian Gartland (1899-unknown).

Further back thank this, I THINK JAmes's father was a Patrick Boylan, but this is where I get abit confused. There are a lot of Patrick Boylans.

I don't know where JAmes was born. It could have been either in Ireland (there might be some link with County Louth but I may just be getting confused), or it could have been Merseyside (Birkenhead/Lancashire).

This Patrick is the main guy I'm confused on. Pretty sure he was from Ireland but there are so many possible birth dates etc and I don't know what region to look at. I also have two possible wives form him. A Mary Kelly (1834-1878) and a Hannah Crook (1854-1936).

The kids James Spencer Boylan and his siblings (Sarah, Florence M, Mary, Michael (who I have quite a bit of info on), Edward, Stephen Patrick and William) started being born in 1856).

Getting so frustrated with this but it's amazing what you find out! Thanks for any help.
