This is the entry from Ancestry - ignore the 'Barnes' against Emma's name - it's Ancestry's American way of doing things. The original is Emma Roper, which is correct as she was married by the time she was baptised.

Posting for info, as Mary was unable to C&P.

Mary. received the photo document. Fantastic thank you.

Erika thank you also for the Ancestry entry.

Chris I have been researching the Buxhall Barnes for a number of weeks and picked up the marraige of John and Mary 1792 however the 1796 Barnes marraige to Mary may well be the one especially with the Grooms parish as Redlingfield.

We are getting closer I believe.

Thanks again to all.

Cheers
David

Thanks Mary

As we know John and Mary were both still alive in 1836 at Emma's baptism which is key to the research.

It seems they were members of the Unitarian Church and as Non Conformists not all the information seems to be out there.

I will look at the others.

The below may also be connected but the spelling of Mary's surname varies but this is not unusual as you know.

I don't think you can take it for granted that Emma's parents were alive at the time of her baptism. Their names are on the record merely because they were her parents.

Hi Erika

You may well be correct. However John Barnes and a Mary? were alive in 1829 at Emma's wedding to Osborn.

As requested we obtained a copy of the marriage of Osborn Roper to Emma Barnes, which took place at Redlingfield Suffolk and reads as follows:

Osborn Roper of the parish of Redisham single man and Emma Barnes of this parish single woman were married in this church by Licence this twenty seventh day of October in the Year One thousand eight hundred and twenty nine by me John Knevett Curate.
Osborn and Emma both signed
Witnesses were John Barnes, Mary Ann (surname appears to be Roper)? and William Green.

We have the marriage record and Emma's baptism in 1836 which indicates she was born in 1812 in Redlingfield. Finding that record of birth is the one critical one now unless I am missing something that is staring me in the face.

We continue to work on it to find the missing links.

Cheers

Births were not recorded until 1837 - the baptism is the only record you will be able to see.

Being Unitarian and a baptism as an adult I doubt we will find anything else re Emma.
