Irish Ancestry - Samuel Neill

Ellen Report 31 Dec 2012 20:40

Hi there,

Thank you for reading my post.

My great great grandmother Jane Neill was Irish and in 1905 she married my great great grandfather John Lyon in Nottingham. They went onto having 4 children together - Irene, John, Gertrude and Ellen.

I recently purchased Jane and John's marriage certificate as I want to learn more about my Irish ancestry. Jane Neill's father was called Samuel Neill and he was a Carpenter (Journeyman) and was deceased when his daughter was married. I have tried to track him in the UK but can not find anything on him, so I believe he may have stayed in Ireland. All I know is that the family resided around the Antrim / Carrickfergus area, but because they have such a common name 'NEILL' I a stuck of where to look. Any advice of where to look in the irish records would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Ellen

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the quick replies.

I have no idea if she had any siblings or not, as we know so little about her. All we knew is that she came from Ireland and then when I got the marriage record it gave her father's name.

The witnesses at the wedding was Walter Co who was the E C Billyeald, Registrar and Catherin Cunningham who was the G.M Howard, Superintendent Registrar.

Thank you for the link safc I shall have a look :)
