Monica
You will learn with time...everyone started somewhere ...it's case of using what info.you have and. Work back from that...be aware that despite what you may find or others find for you it's essential you obtain primary source info.to confirm the family belongs to you...Family Research is not cheap hobby...infact it's darned expensive but you need to buy the Certs if your not wanting to end going down the wrong road.

Eringobragh1916 Report 13 Jan 2013 13:03

Monica....Found 2 Kavanagh/Curran Marriages Reg. Rathdrum which may be your Rosanne....(From Arklow RC Marriages)

Patrick Kavanagh and Rose Curran 19 June 1887
or
William Kavanagh and Roseanne Curran 13 Jan.1884...I would be looking at the Wm.and Roseanne one as most probable.

I have also found 2 deaths of a William Kavanagh within a 6yr period prior to the 1901 Census (James Joseph was b approx 1896) and within Rathdrum Reg District..

William Kavanagh Death Reg Rathdrum Jan-March quarter 1898 aged 44yrs.dob abt 1854.

William Kavanagh Death Reg Rathdrum July-Sept.1901 aged 37years.b abt.1864.
of the 2 the above is nearer Roseanne's age .

The GRO(I) index thru 1958 (excl N. Ireland post-partition) is available at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_KINGDOM_IRELAND

One can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via:
http://www.groireland.ie/

We see from the 1901/11 censuses that this was an RC family, and as Rosanna was 35 in 1901, Matthew was quite likely to have wed before 1864, when civil registration of RC marrs began. I can see no marr for Matt.

There's a few births in Co Wicklow for a Mary Curran.
If we go to the census lookups, and check "Enumerator's abstract (Form N)", we see that Arklow is in Rathdown poor-law union.
In England and Wales the civil rego districts were initially set up to coincide with the poor law unions. Although I don't know the case for Ireland, I presume this was true there also.
I know you asked abt Mary b 1882 - was this an arithmetic mistake - someone a=29 in 1901 would be born in 1871/1872.

My guess is:
name: Mary Curren
registration district: Rathdown
event type: BIRTHS
registration quarter and year: 1871
estimated birth year:
age (at death):
mother's maiden name:
film number: 101048
volume number: 2
page number: 1048
digital folder number: 4193452
image number: 00094
