Aah right sorry :-D that makes more sense. I shall always wonder if it was him now, but Ellen must have known she was widowed because she returned alone and remarried in 1850.

None of this explains the French Connection (excuse the pun) though. If Seth didn't state he was born in france british subject I would think that maybe they had gone to Hampshire not France. But anyway, grasping at straws I suppose and it could have been another Abraham entirely. :-(

The ship's name is Bermuda rather than it going to/coming from Bermuda (I think)....It went to Tasmania as a convict ship...according to Google...it went via Chatham (I assume Kent) but cant see where it departed from originally....

Yes thanks that is the convict record I saw. So it sounds as if that ?Abraham died on the way to Australia does it. (My geography is a bit off, would that be right, Bermuda on the way to Oz?

I guess I will never be able to get proof whether it was my Abraham then. Unless anyone has any suggestions.

As he died it would have helped if the book had given also a date of birth. These things are sent to try us!!!

Thanks, I have actually managed to copy the record and can see that the charge is larceny and, I think, theft at the County court Hampshire.

I wonder if he absconded from Belper which is why Ellen was in the workhouse and was picked up in Hampshire.

I can't see any mention of him being transported but it didn't mention transportation on any of them so I wonder if it is a list of all those transported. Such poor images that it is difficult to tell. I am glad I didn't pay to see them!!

Ann C I think that may well be a different Abraham Allen but will look into it, I think i have come across him before.

Misty I have PMd you (twice because I forgot the e mail addy!) :-D

I can't think why he would have been in Bermuda RN hospital but who knows? and if it doesn't give age or any referrence dates it is difficult to tell.

Thank you so much all of you for trying. No surprise to me that he wants to stay hidden though. :-)
