Hi Everybody Just got back from my shift as a stately home room guide...to find load of stuff Sarah married John Simpson from Croft on Tees His mother was Elizabeth Simpson....oh the marriage certificate he gives name of John T Simpson as his father...very odd... as vicar at Croft says he is illegitimate son of Elizabeth John & Sarah live in yarm with 2 sons in 1851 census 1861 has her in County Durham If this is the census she is with Timothy wilson & family Elizabeth Simpson has married Tmothy Wilson in 1831 so sarah Simpson is her d in Law and the lids are Elizabeths granchildren One census has John & Sarah actually together Then she is widowed and she is with her own family until 1891 when she listed as a servant... I cannot see when she died as their are a number of sarah Simpsons Does this help Carole

Elizabeth Simpson married Timothy Wilson in 1832. I wonder if she was a widow and the mum of John Simpson.

You say above:
"JohnSimpson died about 1845 from that lung disease.I have death cert proving Sarah could not write"
Either you have mixed up the date, or the person??
Could you tell me what you meant to put please?

I connected it like this
Sarah born c 1823 m John Simpsonbc 1824 In Ripon in 1848
Croft Parish gave me details of John Simpson which match other people who have contacted me over the years.
I found John Sadler in some war records on Ancestry & the he reappeared in Ripon, as a pensioner, in 1841 census At the time Sarah was in service in London but she actually married in Ripon Cathedral.....John SIMPSON was a master stone mason and he could well have been working on Ripon Cathedral & met Sarah whilst she was visiting her parents They firstly lived in Yarm then sarah moved up to county Durham & I have all the census records which, of course, include my G grandmama Grtrude Wilson nee Simpson, johnSimpson died about 1845 from that lung disease.I have death cert proving Sarah could not write
The bit on the marriage cert was a grand guess I think.....but Mr Simpson Senior is a different matter all together
Hope this helps cazap

There appear to be 2 John Sadlers who are Chelsea Pensioners, both discharged around the same time, both from Yorkshire.
One in the 2nd Regiment of Life Guards who was born in Sheffield c 1795 and worked as a Smith.
The other in the 1st Regiment of Life Guards who was born in Boltby, Thirsk, Yorkshire c 1798 and worked as a Labourer. - He gave his date of birth as 7th August.
Their records are on FMP and neither give any clue as to a wife or any children.
