And we have his medals and his record with the Essex
from 1911 to 1919.
But you make a very valid point.

During WW1 it was very common for soldiers to be moved from one regiment to another to "make up the numbers" when the regiments had been badly depleted by deaths.
Generally it didn´t seem to matter whether there was any connection to the "new" regiment. So the fact that he started off in the Essex regiment, doesn´t mean he was necessarily still with them later in the war, or at the end of his service.

I wondered about that too, it's possible I surpose
that the first Frank died and then they went on to have another boy which they also named Frank, it seems to have happened a lot back then didn't it.
As of yet I have not found a death for the first Frank
so I may just be going down another
wrong path, story of my life:-)

Very odd that William and Caroline had two children called Frank.

When he joined the army he used his orginal name
Frank William.

But by 1918 when he married Eliza he had change his names around and became
William Frank.

They don't make it easy for us do they ?

Sorry for the confusion but Andrew found a Frank Goddard born 1891 with the 3rd Res Battalion Yorkshire Regiment

But we know he spent 8 years with the 3rd Essex
it's not possible to join up with the 3rd Yorkshire in April
and then join the 3rd Essex in October 1911 is it ?

I shall order the marriage certificate for William and Caroline and see where that leads me.
And the death for Caroline.

It says on William and Eliza's marriage certificate
that William senior was deceased in 1918.

I can't tie that William in the Yorkshie Army
when we have his record for the Essex Regiment

enlisted 21 October 1911
discharged 21 April 1919

So it can't be possible that he was in two regiments at the same time.

Surname - Goddard
Year of birth - 1889 but i put 5 yrs give or take
Region - England
County - all
maiden - hollingsworth

It popped up straight away - Goddard Frank William 1889 Islington London
