Eringobragh Thanks for this info. I know that dad was confirmed in 1941. I have a booklet showing the date. Only thing I don't have is the church details. I can only assume that it was in the Chessington area as that's where he was living with his foster parents. He was, as far as I know, born in Hendon so I suppose he would have been baptised in that area. I'll try and give his confirmation church another go.
Thanks again

Christine...I can't speak for other than RC but Baptism details are required for Confirmaation to take place.normally Baptism took place within the first couple weeks following Birth.Details of Baptism are in the Confirmation Register if the child was Baptised out of Parish / Church where Confirmation took place. If you have knowledge of where that was then I would try contacting that Church.

Gerald P Collins J/F/M 1929 Lambeth Surrey mum nee Collins.
maybe he was put in foster care as Millicent wasn't able to care for him after her dad died in 1938.

Only one other thing. Millicent did state that my father was baptised. It would have had to have been from his date of birth July 1932 to the time of her arrest and his placement into care, Dec. 1938. She says that he was born in Hendon so one would have to assume that the baptism took place somewhere around the area. Only other place that I'm aware of would be somewhere in Lambeth.

I think it must be a true, that he was baptised, as I know for a fact that he was confirmed. I understand that you cannot be confirmed unless you have been baptised. I have tried looking for a baptism, but under the name of Gerald Collins, no luck. Any suggestions guys?

Andy, I don't actually need his BC just that it would, of course, give his parents names. I would dearly love to find out about my grandparents, where they were from, when they died (as I guess they have) etc. just need a little break and I'm sure it will all fall into place. Thanks for all your help.

I can't follow through on the birth which safc posted above :

Might be worth a stab??

Sadly, yes you are correct. None of this info will help to find your dad's BC. It may have filled in a little of his background. There should be a Collins birth with MMN Collins but there isn't.

None of this explains why my dad has no birth cert. IF Alexander Collins was Millicent Collins father, rather than her husband, why is there no BC for Gerald Collins (My dad)?

If the Millicent, who married Mr Collett, was my Millicent, it still makes no sense. My dad was sent to foster parents, Mr & Mrs Oliver Cox in 1939. As far as I know he never again had contact with his natrual parents. Millicent Collins married Percy Collett in 1949, way after my dad was fostered. So no point in looking for a BC in the name of Gerald Collett. Am I right in thinking that? :-|

Did Gerald marry with a middle name.
Could the initial P be for Poole as in Alexander B Poole Collins?
Would Alexander still be a commercial salesman in 1937 ?

Good luck with your search
Maryb.

Andy, Thats always been my problem. Without my dad's birth cert, or any other info, (No relatives who know anything) its gonna be a case of just something clicking into place.

Christine

Christine Report 11 Feb 2013 13:53

POTTY. No my father did not have a middle name.
SAFC. I have searched this birth, Tibbetts, but cannot come up with a connection.
REGGIE.Millicents age was stated as 32 years old.On the arrest/care sheet it asks who are the parents/Guardians of this child (Gerald). It then says Alexander Collins a commercial salesman and Millicent Collins, an unemployed waitress. Alexander's age is not recorded.
REGGIE. The death notice that you have found is indeed that of my father.
Everyone else, fantastic, especially Choccyand Dea. It gives me more than I have ever found before. I'm going to do a bit of searching now 9I am actually at work!!!) and I'll post anything that I find.

You lot have been brilliant. Thanks for your help.
