Have now found that Eliza was married before she did or didn't marry charles someone in the family seemed to remember it was to someone name rogers and they had a son albert she would have had to have been young as she was with charles in 1864 any help please

Jacquline Report 2 Mar 2013 18:36

thanks think you are probably right thanks for all your help

MarieCeleste Report 2 Mar 2013 09:54

Jackie, I don't think you'll be able to find what isn't there!

It's highly probable that they never actually married - many people didn't.

Jacquline Report 1 Mar 2013 22:16

thanks all for your help with charles as seem to have all info on him at the moment could anyone help with his father his name was john joseph melhuih at least this is whats on charles marriage cert to emma he was born in 1806 he was married to someone name maria this is all i know about him.
thank you

Jacquline Report 26 Feb 2013 08:22

she didn't have any children with smith suppose she could have two surnames but why put pegler on two boys and not on kates could get kates birth cert to find out her mothers name prob best.

MarieCeleste Report 26 Feb 2013 08:10

Could there be 2 Elizas - Pegler the mother of the two boys and Eastmeath the mother of Kate?

Was the Eliza on the 1871 actually the Eastmeath Eliza? Or was it the same Eliza known by two surnames? (Just at a guess I'd say the latter)

I guess the birth certificate of one of the children she had with Smith might clarify.

Jacquline Report 26 Feb 2013 07:59

have john georges birth cert 17/7/1874
and eliza pegler was his mother

Jacquline Report 25 Feb 2013 22:33

sorry so long in answering,
that could be Eliza in 51 but as haven't found her marriage to charles I don't know her fathers name,
It was the younger child that was eastmeath so don't know who her mother was, I did think perhaps charles had kate with someone else and she died so eliza took her in but its just a thought who knows.

MarieCeleste Report 25 Feb 2013 09:28

BUT - the elder child on the 1871 had mmn Eastmeath so was Eliza actually Eastmeath and the two boys were to another wife?

EDIT: it was, of course, the youngest child, who was Eastmeath.

MarieCeleste Report 25 Feb 2013 09:20

Given Eliza's birthplace on the 1871 and the mmn on the births that Chris posted, could this be Eliza in 1851?

PEGLER, James Head Married M 38 1813 Labourer Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire
PEGLER, Ann Wife Married F 40 1811 Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire
PEGLER, Eliza Daughter F 6 1845 Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire

Registration District: Dursley
Civil Parish: Wotton under Edge

Address: Church Street, Wotton Under Edge County: Gloucestershire

Jacquline Report 25 Feb 2013 08:51

patchem Report 25 Feb 2013 07:03

You could get Charles's marriage certificate to Emma to see what he claims to be - single or widowed, for confirmation and interest.
He has gone to London and his first wife to Birmingham, so that is interesting.

Jacquline Report 24 Feb 2013 23:31

well did think that so charles must have been a bigamist and eliza just took the smith name although her children were still melhuish

patchem Report 24 Feb 2013 22:20

Do you really think they married? Unlikely.
