For Reggie

The Thomas Richardson you mention is the same one I thought George's parents however after obtaininhg that birth certificate of that Stanley George the father is Thomas Reading Richardson not Thomas Robert Richardson which is what I'd hoped.

Re Stanley George's [ or George Stanley ] am aware he changed around names re his age this approximately 23 on marriage certificate to Margaret so likely born 1916 ?

For Patin Cyprus
Re possible posting overseas and taking up residency that possibility.

Re death up to 2006....i have checked National Archives for deaths after that date and no record so there is possibility still alive and in their 90's

That would be fanatastic if I could trace them.

Also no luck any children...am aware that if went abroad with RAF and stayed then searching children's births could be complicated.

Many thanks for advice and tips so far...very much appreciated.

Did you check freebmd for the Richardson/Smithson marriage..........to find out the forename of the male?

Marriages Dec 1914 (>99%)

RICHARDSON Thomas R Smithson Lincoln 7a 1151
Smithson Florence M Richardson Lincoln 7a 1151

Don't make assumptions......they can lead you astray

Fathers seldom stand as witnesses to marriages of their offspring.

Depending on how the question was posed, one would hope that the groom would have said whether or not his father was deceased.

Margaret's death will only be on line if it occurred up to 2006

How OLD was the groom?

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 23 May 2013 16:03

Having lived in the East Midlands I know that Grantham hospital was downgraded and specialist medical help could be at Lincoln, Nottingham or Leicester. My husband's aunt's death is registered in London although she was living in Kent. She had to go for specialist help in a London hospital and died there.

In the RAF he could have had an overseas posting and children could have been born overseas so not registered in UK, likewise deaths of service personnel and their spouses overseas not registered in UK. For this you need to search Military Records on here.

Specialist RAF hospitals of the time in UK, Nocton Hall Lincs; Wroughton, Wilts; Uxbridge London; Ely Cambridgeshire; Halton Bucks; Cosford Shropshire. In other areas of UK e.g Scotland and South West England there was army/naval medical cover. This means deaths and births could be registered almost anywhere.

Hope you find them :-)

Hi Everybody

I now have a registered birth date for my missing ancestor and cousin Margaret Snowden Richardson [ Nee Prest ] born 26 Dec 1917 in Ripon, Yorkshire.

Reminder that Margaret married a George Stanley Richardson in 1939 in Grantham. George's father listed as Robert Richardson Engineer. He did not act as a witness so possible he was deceased at time of marriage.

Recent receipt of what I had hoped was George's Birth Certificate seems now not to be to the parents who I had gauged was....so back to the drawing board there.

Parents of Margaret are Maude Elizabeth Snowden and Stanley Prest.

Despite having Margaret's birth date I still cannot find any other record for her other then birth and marriage....am presuming that she has likely passed away but todate cannot find any Death record in the UK.

Any ideas on how I could progress greatly appreciated....possible Margaret and George had children but as yet nothing confirmed...have found children born in Scarboro to a Prest/Richardson but unfortunately different parents.

Hope somebody can help my searching !!!

Thanks MarieCeleste....will do

Certainly confusing George Stanley Richardson on Marriage Certificate and yet when Margaret's dad died he was referred to as Stanley Georg Richardson on Probate Record.

All part of the fun !!!

You're very welcome indeed Robin!

Yes, it is very confusing when people are known by their middle names but have to hold my hand up as being guilty of doing just that!

Will look out for you posting the details from the birth certificates when you receive them.

Robin

Robin Report 16 May 2013 21:44

Following advice given on this thread I have sent off for Birth Certificates of both Margaret Snowden Prest 1918 and George Stanley Richardson 1917?

Hopefully when receive may help further in tracking down.

Many thanks to evrybody who replied and tips given, very much appreciated, particularly to MarieCeleste.

Will keep this trhead active and feedback progress....will keep watching for any other respponses to my searching these two relatives .

Cheers Robin

Your right re Margaret's mother she was listed a Saweden...I concluded Margarets birth 1918 after noting that parents of which Maude [ my Gt Aunt ] gave Margaret the Snowden name as a middle name . Yes getting actual birth date could help.

Re Stanley George's parents...like you I thought it was possibly Smithson [mother],I have them tentaively listed as parents although the father is a Thomas Robert Richardson, which is still possible if he used his middle name as afirst name.

Can get confusing when people use middle names as preferred first names.

Coincidently my Grandmother was Smithson, however no link made with Stanley Geoge's possible mother. My Smithson came from Northallerton not Lincolnshire.

Really appreciate your efforts MarieCeleste

Hi ...back again after tea.

Yes I saw the birth in Scarboro and actually got a copy of birth certificate but it is a different set of parents although coincidently one a Prest and one a Richardson...the father was also in the RAF,which added to the coincidences.....I wondered if they where brothers, two Richardsons who joined up and married females but I cannot find any record of Margaret having a sister or any sibling for that matter....possible a Prest cousin. The father of that Richardson birth was a Harold Richardson from Filey.

Back to Robert's occupation he was listed as an engineer.

Marriage witnessed by Stanley Prest and a Dennis M.

Order her birth certificate from GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
Will cost £9.25.

It's then possible to search death records (in UK or overseas) with name and date of birth.

Robin, why can't you order the birth certificate to give you something to work from?

This is a good possibility for Stanley/George:

England & Wales, Birth Index, 1916-2005
Name: Stanley G Richardson
Mother's Maiden Surname: Smithson
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1917
Registration district: Grantham
Inferred County: Lincolnshire
Volume Number: 7a
Page Number: 696

Robin Report 14 May 2013 17:58

I have spoken with National Archives for deaths after 2005 and that did not show up either of them .

As you say MarieCeleste with date of birth would be more sure, hence am not able to oredr Birth certificate till have something more concrete.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 14 May 2013 17:56

Robin, who were the witnesses at the 1939 marriage, and what was the father Robert's occupation?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 14 May 2013 17:55

If you search FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl there is the possibility of a son born Scarborough 1945 (won't post details as he may likely still be alive).

Robin

Robin Report 14 May 2013 17:53

Sorry MarieCeleste missed of George StanleyRichardson birth...according to marriage certificate he seemed to be born in 1916?......do not know where, possible Grantham if local lad who joined the RAF or whether Margaret met him at a dance/socially and he was from another part of the country.

Too many of his name to pin down accuratly ,I have looked at trying to track his family thru his father who was down as Robert Richardson again on marriage certificate, sadly no mention of his mum.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 14 May 2013 17:51

Robin, have you ruled out deaths such as this?

England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2006

Name: George Stanley Richardson
Birth Date: 9 Jan 1909
Date of Registration: Mar 1995
Age at Death: 86
Registration district: Grimsby
Inferred County: Lincolnshire
Register Number: C40C
District and Subdistrict: 5481C
Entry number: 233

That's just one of many of that name.

Do you have information to suggest that they did emigrate? Or is it just because you haven't found a death?

Have you checked to see if they had children?

Deaths after 1966 show the actual date of birth (or as supplied by the informant) so knowing their date of birth may help match them to death records. You'd need to order their birth certificates from GRO to find this.

Robin

Robin Report 14 May 2013 17:41

Thanks for that MarieCeleste......may narrow down to them emigrating after 1957 as that seems only answer........need a flash of inspiration from somewhere

Good luck with avatar !!!!

Hello Robin, I think if someone was granted probate they'd have to be available to undertake that responsibility?

What year was George Stanley Richardson born?
