Think that death could be right Susan. She is at the same address until 1932, but not there in 1933.

Hi Folks,

Susan if you are in OZ/WA you will know that we have just had a bad storm and down south we have heavy snow.

My daughter's 40th Celebrations to be held this weekend in Akaroa - we have all been waiting for new of the snow as one way into the Akaroa Village and we have to climb Hilltop - famous for its view s and snow covering!!!

Still no news on that, but storm abating and so far no snow in christchurch - fingers crossed we don't get it. Our other daughter and partner fly in from Sydney arrving 12.30 am - flight already delayed 1 hour so that probably saved them as had they come on time, they would have flown into the storm.

Now you all have been busy and I have the pm Flip thank you - need to study but quick glance tells me its right second marriage - thanks. Want to now look at the notes since my last look in pm today.

Back soon. Thanks folks no wonder I could not find her death.

Dear Susan and Flip,

What can I say, but thank you, thank you, thank you so much. You really have done me proud and I am in tears as how do you do it? I have been searching for the family for some time.

Le me fill you in.

I am the daughter of Amy May Povey, daughter of Thomas Charles Povey and Johanna (h) Povey formerly Turner b 1880. She was found with a name mis-spelt in the 1901 Census with her family as shown on the thread. Johanna is the eldest and she was meticulous about paperwork - the first to attend school in the family. I have her original birth certificate, school attendance records, etc.

I started to trace back from her to find her parents and so on. I found the birth in 1860 of Amy Noble and obtained the certificate. Also the marriage certificate - William Turner and Amy Noble 1879. I then ventured to find the siblings of Johanna (my grandmother). I sent for many, many wrong certificates for Thomas birth 1885 then hit correct. Managed to find he married A.M. Kybert and had a son Thomas b 1911 and I finally had the death of Thomas 1939 - if this is correct it has A. M Turner as the informant.

OMG I am going on and on, but look it makes sense why did'nt I think she may have remarried. We just don't do some things.

So once again what a tremendous team. You might notice an earlier thread about William Turner and I have just sent for his death certificate. He was 13 years old.

Better go and prepare for the weekend now it looks like it is still on as weather is better.

Thank you all so much - months and months searching and then with a quick query - you helps are worth a mint! Talk about making someone's evening.

My fondest appreciation of you Susan and Flip.

Take care now,

Sappho

Hi Susan,

Just had three weeks in W.A. came down to Albany and did the inland route back to Perth.

Lovely, but I do know that you probably did not get the news of us from so far away.

We get all the Aussie news here and I know you would be getting cold temps. Have friends in Kendenup.

Thanks for all your help - you are so positive in your findsing.

Best Wishes,

Sappho

Good morning and you're welcome Sappo, glad you are pleased! Just hope Susan's death proves to be the right one (looks really likely).

Seems strange to think that you two are in the middle of winter, whilst it's summer here. Although no snow, it's raining!

Ru

Ru Report 20 Jun 2013 22:48

Yes, WA gets hot summers and cooler winters in places. Lovely Spring with all the flowers.

Flip, been watching the rivers carefully. We too have had non-stop rain for over a week with Christchurch flooding in places, but scales are everything and Europe takes my heart at present - lovely Prague and Southern Germany.

Back to family.

I'm having to get over the weekend family celebrations. Daughter from Sydney got in at 2.30 am after delays - still asleep, but then I shall send for some certs regarding all you and Susan have found. I need to wind that side up.

I must say without the helpers on Genes I would not have found the family. Mum hardly mentioned her grandmother Amy which is strange as she was alive in 1933 - mum would have been 20 years.

So a resounding thanks to you once again you lovely people. Nice for you to know that you put a smile on people's faces and you have never met them - or have you??? (one wonders at times)!!

Bye for now.

Hello helpers,

I am coming back on this thread as I wish now to continue with some information added here connected to another member of the family.

Is this the right way to go as a lot of information on this thread has lead me to request further help for another family member researched at the time of this thread.

Please advise before I add request.

Many thanks.

Hi Susan,

thanks for your offer. I have been trying to trace information from the following you added and I now repeat to bring us up together:

I think this is Thomas 1885 with his own family in 1911.

1911 England Census
about Thomas Turner Name: Thomas Turner
Age in 1911: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Relation to Head: Head
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Southwark, London, England
Civil Parish: Southwark St George the Martyr
County/Island: London
Country: England
Street Address: 10 Falstaff Yard
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: PLATEMAN ON HOTEL
Registration District: Southwark
Registration District Number: 23
Sub-registration District: Kent Road
ED, institution, or vessel: 4
Piece: 1766
Household Members: Name Age
Thomas Turner 27
Maud Turner 29
Rose Turner 21
Ena Emily Turner 5
Johannah Turner 2

Thomas Turner born 1885 brother of my Johanna appears above with we suspect his wife Maud and daughters Ena Emily and Johannah, but I cannot find their births anywhere. It is likely that Thomas named one of his daughters after my grandmother Johannah, but I cannot find her. I have tried most of the afternoon and still no luck. Also where is Ena or EE Turner born 1896 give or take a year. Obviously Rosa is not their child, but I cannot trace her with any positive connection.

Any ideas.

I have Thomas death Certificate and his wife I understood to be Alice Maud Kybert. I am sure I had her marriage Certificate, but cannot now find it - I am miffed at this. However, I must have been convinced I had the right death certificate as A M Turner is the witness at his death and is on the certificate.

Any help - what am I doing wrong?

Good morning Vera,

Many thanks. This is looking better and I was unable to even source Ena on genes so where did you find her and did you see any marriage for her. I need to send for a few more certs I can see. I am trying to come forward now to see if there are any living relatives coming down Thomas line.

Also how did you find Johanna - this is just great for me. Will have to send for a few and see if they are right, but thank you so much I just do not seem to be able to find these family members as you have done.

Thank you again.

Will keep this thread posted on my findings.

All helpers please know you are appreciated very much.

Kind regards,

Sappho.

Ru Report 12 Jul 2013 06:06

Hi again Vera,

Sooo pleased. I have now made inroads with this family coming forward and have traced to Tarry and hope I have the right family.

It was obvious something was not quite right with Rose as her age indicated thus. However, I have had luck with searching and if Maud is my Alice Maud Kybert, I am wondering how Thomas Turner 1911 came into the family (if indeed he is their son and a family member) or of course, he may not have been born at the time of the 1911 census as I think they are taken in March/April of the year.

so again with your help have found that
:

Johannah Turner b 1909 Southwark 1d 20 married Alfred Tarry in 1936 1d 65.
It look like Johannah died in 1974 15 1386.

J & A had Ann Tarry born 1939 1d 187 and Ann married D J Rossiter 5d 1547 in 1961.

David is on Trees and I have sent him a pm. So let's see what happens.

Thank you for the pointers, but I did not get any further than that. Will try the other daughter Ena E Turner to see what turns up.

Thanks for your help.

Life does get interesting.

Again thank you,

Sappho
