Christine Report 1 Jul 2013 01:54

I am trying to find information on both Albert George Gibson and Loretta Lilia Robson - both from Scarborough, Yorkshire and from Prospect Road, Scarborough.

Loretta was a servant there at the time of the birth of her daughter Doreen June Robson on the 9th June 1929. When June and her husband Robert Henry Peckitt departed to Australia 16 March 1957, both cited the Prospect Road as their address. On the marriage certificate June cites Albert as her father although he was not on the birth certificate. June is my husband's ex mother-in-law and grandmother of my step children who I am researching this for. June's daughter Janis (dec) always wanted to know about her family as June was always evasive. As June is now deceased, her Granddaughter now feels it is now ok to start working out the family heritage (regardless if it is embarrassing!) :-S

I hope I can get information as I have limited ability to find out as Loretta and Albert have no birth or death record nor census (maybe they were born shortly after the 1911 census).
regards
Christne Hopkins (nee Moore)

Thank you so much for your information, I will pursue this further. It further adds to the mystery (and possible scandal though! ;-) ). I had not been able to receive this amount of information on Albert George Gibson, so I thank you.

Another ingredient into this interesting mix - the general registry office has not been able to find a birth certificate on Mary Elizabeth Gibson who in 1918 married Thomas Peckitt and are the parents of June's spouse Robert Henry Peckitt.
Because of the similarity of surnames between Robert's Spouse Doreen June Robson's alleged father Albert Gibson and Robert's own mother Mary Elizabeth, we are trying to find out if Albert and Mary are related as well.
As it is important to my step-daughters to determine their maternal heritage, I am trying to unmuddy the waters as much as possible -not to create embarrassment - but an explanation as to their grandmother's story and why certain things are as they are.

So I hope I do NOT create upset to anyone who may be connected to this story . If some-one wishes to contact me privately on this matter please do so.

Again thank you for the information already offered _ I really appreciate it.
kind regards
Christine Hopkins

Christine ...............

when researching marriages around WW1, it is important to remember that many marriages, especially for women, were second marriages.

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Jul 2013 04:17

for information ............

Marriages Sep 1918 (>99%)

Gibson Mary E Peckitt York 9d 110
Peckitt Thomas Gibson York 9d 110

If you have ancestry, you can see Thomas Peckitt's Probate record ........

England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966 about Thomas Peckitt

Name: Thomas Peckitt
Probate Date: 21 Mar 1946

I wonder .........................

Deaths Sep 1958 (>99%)

PECKITT Mary E 68 Scarboro' 1b 657

If it is Mary Elizabeth, that would make her born about 1890 ....... assuming that the informant knew her real age.

Two Public Family Trees on ancestry have the following.

However ........... neither of them are showing any back up documentation, but it may be worth trying to trace through

Loretta Lilias ROBSON
Birth 2 NOV 1910 in Gateshead, Durham, England
Death 25 FEB 1989 in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England

Marriage to Horace Robert GRIGGS
1931 24 Dec — Age: 21
Registry Office, Gateshead, Durham, England

IF true, these are shown as her parents ............

Parents

William Worley ROBSON 1867 – 1953
Sarah NEEVE 1868 –

Again , if true ............ this looks to be her family in 1911, with a very bad mistranscription of her name!

It IS Lorette Lilias on the image

and Clarinec is Clarence

I will send in Alternate Name Reports. (done!)

I bet this is her birth registration ...... with yet another misspelling!

Births Dec 1910 (>99%)

ROBSON Larette L Gateshead 10a 1003

I looked at the original, the GRO INdex to birth registrations, and it is typed as Larette L .................. so is not a mistranscription by the modern-day transcriber, but goes back to the GRO Index in 1910/1911.

You could order this birth certificate, using EXACTLY the same spelling as shown above, and I'm betting it will be the correct one.

In case you did not know, order all bmd certificates only from GRO (web address below) .............. the cost will be £9.25, including postage and handling.

It is the official Government site, most other sites charge much more.

GRO = General Register Office

You will not be able to send to freebmd a correction re the birth, as there is no error in transcription, however, you can add a postem stating that you believe the correct forename to be ************

Use freebmd to look for possible children for Griggs/Robson

It would seem that there were 7.........3 in the north-east, and 4 in Cambs

They are too recent to post on here..............

3 members have at least one of them in GR trees

Of those three, one also has Loretta in his tree.

If you send a contact message, delete GR's text, and put in your own.........preferably not actually stating the 'link' until such time as you have had a chance to 'test the water', as it were.
