Hi, I am having trouble finding my relatives with the surname PATT. My grandmother was called Emmeline Patt born 1913 and I believe her parents to be William Patt born 1882 and Beatrice Patt, nee Turner, born 1882. They lived in Atherington around the 1910's. I cant seem to go much further. I think William's parents were John and Elizabeth Patt, living in Torrington (born 1844 and 1846). Also can anyone tell me what business was held in South Street, Torrington as a few of Williams sisters worked there, but I cannot decipher what their occupation was as on the census records it looks like "Fr CP"??? Kind regards Sarah

You say you believe her parents to be William & Beatrice. Why not get her birth certificate to be sure?

The family in 1881:

1881 England Census
about Edith Mary Patt

Name:
Edith Mary Patt
Age:2
Estimated Birth Year:abt 1879
Relation:Daughter
Father's Name:John Patt
Mother's Name:Elizabeth Patt
Where born:St Giles, Devon, England
Civil Parish:Yarnscombe
County/Island:Devon
Country:England
Street Address:Langridge Ford

If you look for Edith's birth and get the cert, it will give you Elizabeth's maiden name. You can then look for her marriage to John.

Sarah, can you try to remove the Answered tick as people will think that you don't want any more help. If you can't remove it, can you add to the title something like "help still wanted"?

Sarah

Sarah Report 19 Jul 2013 16:59

Hello Kath, the census year is 1841 and I cannot decipher either of the girls occupation. First one is called Elizabeth Patt born 1826 in Torrington living in South Street and the second is called Grace Patt born 1822 also living in South Street.

Potty

Potty Report 19 Jul 2013 17:04

The only sister I can find for William is the Edith in the censuses above.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 19 Jul 2013 17:04

The occupation for Elizabeth and Grace is F.S. = Female Servant.

I was confused as I thought you meant sisters of William born 1882.

It looks like Grace was a servant in the household of a surgeon.
