DJ, don't worry too much about the spellings! The family is the only one with an Edwin born at the right time who has a father William.

JohnDoe

JohnDoe Report 26 Jul 2013 18:01

I am a bit confused up to William. The family in 1861 Catcott may be correct too but am very confused due to the spellings

Potty

Potty Report 26 Jul 2013 12:15

No children showing with William and Sarah in 1881 and 1891; Sarah has died by 1901 and William is living with his daughter, Lavinia:

Name: William Symons
Age: 75
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826
Relation: Father-in-law
Where born: Burtle, Somerset, England

William Norris 46
Lavinia Norris 44
Edith E Norris 20
William Symons 75

Potty Report 26 Jul 2013 12:10

Yet another variation (although this one is a mistranscription of a poor image - I have posted a correction):

1851 England Census

Name: William Seymore
Age: 26
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1825
Relation:Head
Spouse's Name: Sarah Seymore
Where born: Catcott, Somerset, England

William Seymore 26
Sarah Seymore 27
George Seymore

There could have been children born between this census and the 1861 who died.

Potty Report 26 Jul 2013 11:58

Using Edington for POB, could be this family in 1861, living in Catcott, Somerset:

William Symmons 36
Sarah Symmons 38
George Symmons 12
Ann Symmons 9
Edwin Symmons 7
Lavina Symmons 5
William Symmons 3
Henry 4 Months

Potty

Potty Report 26 Jul 2013 11:56

Change of POB in 1891:

1901 Wales Census
Name:Edwin Simmons

Age in 1901: 47
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1854
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary Simmons
Gender: Male
Where born: Edinginton, Somerset, England

Potty Report 26 Jul 2013 11:50

1911 census say that they had had 3 children (so you have found them all); 1 has died. So, William is on the census and if you have Margaret's DOD on the gravestone, you can work out whether it is she or Sarah who died before 1911

OK. I am wondering if I could get further help about the family as I am finding it hard with the surname variations.

I need help for -

Margaret Jane Simmons' siblings, so far I have Sarah M Simmons, and William E Simmons.

and,

Siblings for Edwin Symmons born ca 1854.

and,

the ancestors of his parents William Symmons and Sarah Coombe, both mattied May 2 1848 (I got Robert Symmons and John Coombe so far as the each spouse parents).

Much help please!

Not sure where the above transcription of the 1881 census is from but the image makes no mention of Wales - just says "Somerset, Byrtle". Other POBs on the page "Devon, Torquay".

Edit to give POBs from the image for the rest of the family:
Mary, Glamorgan, Gellygear
All the children, Glamorgan, Cardiff

I am wondering, there isn't a Somerset in Wales, the records say "Somerset, Wales" do they mean England??

JohnDoe

JohnDoe Report 23 Jul 2013 09:43

Thanks for all the census transcriptions!! I can basically draw out a quick family tree for a friend now, he wasn't expecting this..

DJ

I'm sure it has been pointed out to you before that you have to be flexible about the spelling of names................

JohnDoe

JohnDoe Report 23 Jul 2013 09:30

And yes, Margaret married WILLIAM WILLIAMSON MILLER (he is also buried in the same grave)

JohnDoe

JohnDoe Report 23 Jul 2013 09:29

Judging from you Census posts, I think these may be correct.. Thanks, but I am wondering why it is "Symonds" when the FreeBMD says "Simmons" ?
