Have you been in touch with social services about your adoption file? They should be able to locate it for you.

There are quite a few births for the name Dorothy G. Hardy between 1900 and 1920.

The one posted by above by Joseph is a possible although I would have thought your mother might have been a bit younger than that one would have been when you were born.

You really do need to locate your adoption file before you go any further or you could be researching the wrong family.

Maybe she never married
or perhaps this is her ...

HARDY Dorothy G - Jones- Edmonton 3a 1644 -
JONES Charles H - Hardy - Edmonton 3a 1644

I have the feeling that the Dorothy who married Charles H. Jones in Edmonton in 1944 may be this one:-

Name: HARDY, Dorothy G
Registration district: Edmonton
County: Middlesex
Year of registration: 1919
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Smith
Volume no: 3A
Page no: 1215

If this was the right Dorothy that would make her around 16 or 17 at the time of the adoption which seems more likely than a 30 year old.

Only one Dorothy Gladys up to 1911 and that's the 1905 birth

after that there are just middle initials

but this could be the one who was born in Colchester in 1905
so not your mother if you were born in the 30's
