Sorry, I wasn't being specific enough - I was saying that was my only reference but I think it is safe to claim that the 'other' female of the same who was a lot older is definitely a relative. Just seems difficult making these connections.

Thank you Alemap, can you find another burial for James Smitheringale? There seems to be more than one baptising children in the same area.

And thanks Chris Ho for the link - will look into it.

And the newspaper articles are great. Thank you Tenerife Sun!

Well thank you - Ozibird, the fact Tryphena died young is ONLY from the IGI. Nothing more - and I still can't place that Smitheringale family in Grantham in the 1830s so you marriage may help.

Bascially, I descent from what appears to be one branch and a seperate, albeit smaller branch (of which I suspect the Grantham twig is part) grew close by. The two families, in my opinion, must connect but the problem is where. I have kind of added several uknown generations on my gedcom to include of the information together (of course, aware that this is speculation in the hope of finding evidence later). How strange that family from the 1830s (children of James and Elizabeth) can't be found in the census?! I tried and tried. STRANGE! Any ideas?

So please, keep the information coming - I am very gratefuly for what has been shared here, and love the D.H. Lawrence note ... have you read Sons and Lovers? One of the main characters is named LEIVERS.

Also, than you Detective for the link of FreeREG ... not a site I use at all, so will get onto it!

Also, that Tryphena Smitheringale Magarrach must be connected to the Grantham Tryphena - what a fabulous name. Please, keep looking. Such finds all help the wider puzzle!

Marriages Mar 1856
Bowyer Ann Alverstoke 2b 649
BRUSHWOOD William Alverstoke 2b 649
Magarrah Hugh Alverstoke 2b 649
Smitheringale Tryphena Alverstoke 2b 649

Checking out the censuses, I believe William Brushwood married Ann Bowyer.

As there is only one other Magarrah in all the types in the whole of freeBMD I think it is a transcription error. As it is transcribed correctly from the index it probably happened at the parish register.

www.freereg.org.uk is quite good for Lincs ;-)

Although familysearch may hold more transcriptions from across England, the freereg version gives the extra details shown on the register including margin notes
