When was her sister Bridget supposed to have been born,as it was found that Amelia was her daughter and not sister.

Potty, I meant the Niece of John Bousfield in 1881.

The one you posted lodging with the Turners is more likely.

Sad to see that by 1911 they'd had 9 children, but only 2 had survived.

This will be one of those who died:
Deaths Sep 1904 (>99%)
Tommins Herbert 0 Salford 8d 54

Father and daughter??
Deaths Sep 1911 (>99%)
Tommons Herbert 35 Salford 8d 58

I've tried various spellings, but so far haven't found them in 1901.

Do we know who the witness's were on Herbert and Margarets wedding in 1899 or where they were 1901??

Mike, so you don't think she's the one I posted in 1881?

Yes, I agree.
I couldn't find a link to that Margaret in 1881.

So still looking for her in 1881

The Margaret Riley 1880 who is down as niece with the Bousfield family seems to become Margaret Bousfield daughter on 1891/1901 census!!

Thomas Riley born 1838 Ireland married Alice Grimbley/Grimley born Ormskirk 1836 married 12/2/1860 8b 388 and had daughter Margaret Riley 1880/1 with Aunt and Uncle Bousfield according to tree on Ancestry.

If "niece" really means niece in the 1881, I don't think that's our Margaret. At least I can't see any Bousfield -Riley or Grimbley (or spelling variation)-Riley marriage except one in Shoreditch in 1875, which can't be relevant, because the wife (Elizabeth Grimbley) was born in Shoreditch, per censuses, whereas Margaret Bousfield (nee Grimbley/Grimley) was born Ormskirk.

I'll post it just for ref & elimination:

Marriages Jun 1875 (>99%)

Grimbley Elizabeth Shoreditch 1c 217
Riley George Shoreditch 1c 217

There are two Margaret Riley births that could be hers on freebmd, one in 1876 and this one in 1877:

Births Dec 1877 (>99%)

RILEY Margaret Manchester 8d 304
Lancashire bmds have a Margaret Riley registered in the St George's area in 1877, which is where the family are living in 1871 & 1881, so I would send for the one posted above.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 5 Apr 2014 12:20

Birth cert would show mother's name.
Death record above implies birth c1879. These are the nearest per FreeBMD:

Births Jun 1877 (>99%)
RILEY Margaret Mary Manchester 8d 297
RILEY Margaretta Manchester 8d 345

Births Dec 1877 (>99%)
RILEY Margaret Manchester 8d 304
RILEY Margaret Ann Manchester 8d 320

Births Mar 1880 (>99%)
RILEY Margaret Graham Manchester 8d 297

1871

Edward Riley 30 - Bricklayer's Lab
Mary Riley 30 - Rag sorter
William Riley 10
Mary Riley 6
John Riley 1

Maybe parents married in Ireland.
Mother's maiden name would be on child's birth cert

Potty Report 5 Apr 2014 12:06

Again, a possible in 1881:
Margaret Riley
Age:4
Estimated birth year:abt 1877
Relationship to Head:Lodger
Gender:Female
Where born:Manchester
Civil Parish:Manchester

Street address:21 Baker St
Patrick Turner 37

Ed. Riley 40 married, b Galway Ireland, Bricksetter's labourer
Mary Murphy 30

The layout of the form is a bit unusual; all except the Turners are Lodgers and the relationships aren't shown.
