I am trying to trace Louis Christian Jensen knows as Louis. I believe he was born in Copenhagen Denmark around 1868. He had a brother called Theodore. He was possible a sailor and came to Tyneside where he married Sarah Eleanor Jackson in 1896. The family I think then moved to the Wallsend area of Northumberland where there was plenty of employment. They had children, Joseph Louis, Thomas P, May Victoria, Charles Frederick and George was born around 1911 after his father was .... According to family "lost at sea" or possibly moved on! Jensen is the most common name in Denmark so very hard to find. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Presumably, you are asking ONLY for info about his death...........................

Thank you to everyone who has helped me with my search for Louis Christian Jensen. I could not find the family in the 1901 census for looking! Did not know about freebmd, that is great.
Sarah Eleanor did remarry Andrew Whittle Sibald and had more children. I can find them but still can't find what happened to Louis Christian Jensen or his parents, presume I would have to look at Danish records.
Thanks again

There is this baptism on familysearch for a Theodore Jensen in Kobenhaven/Copenhagen (you said Louis had a brother named Theodore).

However it is different parents to the Louis Christian baptism that K posted, so may be a red herring.

Do you have the marriage cert for the name of Louis's father?

K - thanks, that 1911 census is the family all names changed to Johnson. Louis Christian has 'gone' but census date is April and baby George due September that year. Interesting she has changed their name as they were Jensen in the 1901 census.
She married again in 1915 but she used Jensen on the records for that. Did he die at sea or did he leave?

Kucinta - thank you for that link, it seems that that Theodore is a girl so guess it can't be the right one.

I have no birth or death certificates for any of them and my mother died of dementia before I could get her family history. I am doing this so my own children know where they came from :-D <3

Jo you need to get the actual marriage certificate

(and by the way it can be easier to find information at freebmd ... and it's free :-) )

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Marriages Jun 1896
Jackson Sarah Eleanor S. Shields 10a 1275
Jensen Louis S. Shields 10a 1275

this is where to order certificates - anywhere else will overcharge for no extra service

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

I did understand you were looking for info about Louis other than his death i.e. his ancestry so I'm glad it seems there may be some info available from what has been posted here, but with his marriage certificate you should have his father's name so you can aim in the right direction to find his ancestry

and actually you want to be sure that is the correct marriage as we can't tell just from the index - although I guess you know that the children's mother was Jackson from birth records or such ? but the certificate will also give his occupation and their ages just to be certain

you say that Sarah married again in 1915 to Andrew Whittle Sibald ... I can't find any Andrew Sibald marriage in the index ... but there is that 1916 marriage I posted above and no other Sarah E Jensen I can see who could be the bride

I also don't see a death for a Sarah Sibald to fit ...

okay, his name was SiBBald ... and grrr she married as Eleanor

Marriages Dec 1915
Jensen Eleanor Sibbald Tynemouth 10b 646
Sibbald Andrew W Jensen Tynemouth 10b 646

Name: Eleanor Sibbald
Birth Date: abt 1877
Date of Registration: Jun 1927
Age at Death: 50
Registration district: Tynemouth
Inferred County: Northumberland

There's a chance this article may be about your man:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/6544181

It was in the Shields Daily Gazette of 31 December 1894.

There are a number of other articles about a Louis Jensen from Copenhagen but that man was a lion-tamer.

David

David Report 24 Apr 2014 19:38

A lion tamer in the family would be much more fun than a sailor!
Thanks for your help, you are an expert!

Because I still haven't managed to find an answer and hoped that someone else may be able to help or that more information is now available a year later.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 24 Mar 2015 21:00

Did you ever get a copy of the actual marriage certificate?

The info from that would be useful.

Those of us who helped originally would prefer to keep everything in one place - much easier for all of us :-)
