Just had another look, as far as I can see, the only thing (as you said) is to buy Wilfred's birth cert to find mothers name....

Not been able find Thomas George Osbourne and Mabel Earl on 1911census.

I did think maybe Wilfred was Thomas's child who was brought up by Benjamin but no, he was born in Wolverhampton.....

Also come back to Mabel's dob being 1872, as given by her on 1911 census, would she be that far out in knowing the correct year, she is obviously reasonably educated....big difference 1872 and 1880

Your welcome Jackie,

At least you know your on the correct track now!!

I'm intrigued who Wilfred's mother was, like you, I have been unable to find a marriage for Benjamin c1902/3, maybe he and Mabel just lived together until later and the 1917 marriage is theirs.....

Would be good to know what the cert reveals once you have it.....

rootgatherer Report 6 Sep 2014 19:10

So who was Wilf's mother please, if Ben's mother was Mabel Woodland? How do you know that Ben,s mother was born in Dorset?

Who was in the workhouse in 1881 please?

Mistycat

Mistycat Report 6 Sep 2014 19:59

Hi Jackie....hope you had a good holiday

How baffling, I cant find either a marriage nor a birth for her....

Does Wilfs birth cert state Ben and Mable were married, of course that could be easily lied about!!!

Is the address given the same one as on 1911 census ( George Street, Ettingshall, Wolverhampton )

Rootgatherer..... Birth place was taken from 1911 census, Mable states she was born 1872, Dorchester, Dorset

Misty x

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 6 Sep 2014 20:18

Was she not the "wife" of Ben? Or was there also a son Ben that I've missed please?

Mistycat

Mistycat Report 6 Sep 2014 20:26

Mabel was the "wife" of Ben, mother to Wilfred B Oldfield, Jackie has just received the birth cert for Wilfred.

Jackie did say the cert she has was for Ben but I'm assuming that was just a name mix up, she did say she was ordering Wilfred's cert, hence thinking it's purely a name mix....
