It is possible of course that Nanny might not have been born in Stalmine ........ she would still be counted as "of this Parish" if she was living there, eg if she was a servant who had moved from some other part of Lancashire, or of England.

or her surname MIGHT be wrong ................ eg, Cornall could have been misheard for Cornwall, or Cornell

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Nov 2016 19:10

from lancsopc

"Historically, although Stalmine has a Church which dates from before 1240, it was actually an isolated fragment of the Parish of Lancaster. Despite the presence of this church in the village, many people would undertake the journey to the mother church in Lancaster in order to be married. When searching for people from Stalmine, the registers of St Mary Lancaster should also be consulted."

This is exactly what I was saying in the posting above.

have you looked on familysearch?

Even if you find a baptism, you will probably only get her father's name ........ mother's were only rarely named back then.

Have you considered the fact that they might not have been baptised until much later ................... a small village or someone living out on the moors or in the forests might not have access to a church, or the church might not have a minister.

Have you considered that they might have been Non-conformists?

There were a lot of Quakers in that area back in the 18th century.

Have you tried Googling the surname and area????

On ancestry there are two original images from the parish register for the marriage of Richard Clarkson and Nancy Cornall- I cannot read the actual marriage entry details very well- other than the witnesses were Nicholas? Buttler, and Thomas Bibby. I've sent you a copy, but maybe someone else can take a look?

The other entry for banns also dated 12 Sep 1809 says:

Lancashire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1936
"Richard Clarkson, Husbandman, and Nancy Cornall spinster, both of Stalmine in this parish."

So presumably we're looking for Nancy/ Ann's birth in Stalmine
