Yes, Jennifer, for my sins Hyde is a family line. My mother's mother was a Hyde. She was born - coincidentally - in Aston Birmingham where William and Ellen married. Her family moved to South Wales in the late 1890s.

I certainly have relatives in Australia after my great great grandfather's brother emigrated (and married bigamously - just like the wife he left behind)!

However, as I have found Hyde is a very very common name :-(

Jude......we certainly do have some ratbags in our pasts.........my Great Grandfather left my Great grandmother at some point in the late 1890's early 1900 's and I am having a real challenge trying to find him?? I have another thread about him. Henry Arthur LEE. ????

it was Ernest who went to New Zealand :-)

Australia was what we always thought only because their daughter died there. Everything else fits though i.e. Leonard Titcombe born 1884 married to Sarah Anne Banks and died in 1920. Sarah Anne came to NZ at some stage and lived in Foxton. They had a daughter Connie who was born 1913 in the UK and died in Australia in 1935.
Thank you so much Gritty??

Gritty Report 22 May 2015 10:49

If Sarah Ann went to Australia or New Zealand it must have been after Connie's death- Connie died in Solihull (near Birmingham UK) in 1935 (not Australia):

of The Wood Tile House, Green Lane, Bentley Heath, Knowle. Spinster, died 30th August. Administration Birmingham to Sarah Ann Titcombe widow.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Sarah Ann Titcombe is on the Birmingham electoral register until 1945 (Living at 350 Shaftmoor Lane).

Sarah was living at 327 Green Lane, Small Heath until 1925, she then moved to 373/375 Bordesley Green, Small Heath and lived there until 1935. She then moved to 350 Shaftmoor Lane- I don't see her listed on the Birmingham electoral register after 1945.

Gritty........you have sourced so much information for me I am so grateful.
Things we were told actually weren't correct. We were always under the impression that Connie died in Sydney, Australia. She was either a pianist or singer and died suddenly.
As you say Sarah or Aunty Annie as we knew her came to NZ after Connie died. She lived opposite her sister in law Alison aka as Alice and Ernest Titcombe in Foxton. I knew her from the early 1960's until she died in 1981

Jude.......after more research I have been in contact with the owner of the tree on ancestry......a cousin of my husband and between us we have found some of the ancestors on her tree dont actually match. Her ones were from somewhere else not the Birmingham area. Got that little bit sorted thanks to all of you on here. :-)

I am 100% sure we have the right family up to Willam TITCOMBE b1860- d1938 who married Ellen OSBORN b1861- d1946, in December 1881. Their children were, William 1884-1885, Leonard 1885-1920, Ernest 1886-1957 and Elsie 1892-1993 ? .Elsie married a William Butler.

From there, I think Williams parents were William TITCOMBE b1827- d1885 who married Caroline HUFNELL b1828- d1883, in 1846.

These were possibly William Jnr siblings; Ellen 1848, Ada Jane 1850, Emily 1853, John 1856, Eliza 1858, then William 1860, Prudence 1863, James 1869 and Clara 1874. I am not 100% sure of these being all from the same family.

This then leads me to William Snr b 1827 being the son of Thomas TITCOMBE b 1796- d 1849 who married Eleanor ? They also had a possible daughter Emma b1825 -d1827 aged 2yrs.
As far as I am aware all relatives were from the Birmingham area.

Can anyone help me to verify these names etc.

Many thanks
Jenny :-)

Hi Jennifer, did you buy the marriage certificate for William and Ellen? This will confirm father's name.

Jennifer

Jennifer Report 30 May 2015 09:16

No Gritty, I haven't. I am unsure how to do this. I have bought printouts here in NZ but have not done so for the UK. Can you point me in the right direction please. :-)

Ooops....It looks like I order from GRO. Will try to do this??
