Laird,

You have put a VERY long URL on the first post on this page which has 'messed up' this page completely.

In order to correct this so we can read the page in the normal way could you please delete that long URL and replace it with this one:

goo.gl/1jj8SE

For future reference - if you have a very long URL, you can shorten it using this site:

https://goo.gl/

Usually it gives you one which will turn blue and link when you click on it but for some reason the one it gives above will have to be copied and pasted into the browser to connect but at least this page will return to normal.

Dea x

P.S. - Hope you don't mind me doing this but the page was driving me batty and was very difficult to follow.

I've updated my blog with the Eliassen information although still struggling to completely grasp it. Clearly my great great grandmother was married previously before she married Elias.

Hi just in case any one stumbles across this rather large thread i've tried to simplify it into two pages here- http://lairdofdunans.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/the-simms-family-of-hull-part-2.html

Interesting, Laird!

It correctly shows the Scandinavian and Irish aspects, also the north of England.

DNA what on earth is it??? So i ordered a kit via ancestry yesterday and lo behold it turned up today.......so you have to spit into a tube haha and then you send it back to them which i did today. You activate a number and in a few weeks times i'll be rather curious to see how useful this going to be in my family tree research.......it might be very useful or it be useless......its all new to me! So i've updated my family to tree to include this chap who it would seem very very likely is my great great paternal grandfather and it seems like Frank Henry Simms is his only recorded child.....I wonder if a DNA test will confirm this and how a current DNA test can even confirm this, so many questions, so many unknowns.

So I got his so far-

My great great grandmother Charlotte Simms born 1876 of Brailes and died Charlotte Minal in 1948 got briefly involved with this young man Francis A Bloxham born 1875 of Brailes who married some one else and died 1947. These two got together and created apparently Francis A Bloxham's only child Frank Henry 'Simms' who then went on to have an army of descendants!

So will this ancestry DNA test be able to confirm this? I have to wonder...

Thanks again ArgllGran it may be several weeks before get the dna results......I'll be curious to know how this all pans out.

Son's death:

Frederick Francis Bloxham
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007
Name: Frederick Francis Bloxham
Death Age: 96
Birth Date: 24 Mar 1908
Registration Date: Jan 2005
Registration district: Cheltenham
Inferred County: Gloucestershire
Register Number: B69D
District and Subdistrict: 479/1B
Entry Number: 31

I don't see a marriage for him, so far - unless the 1963 Frederick F marriage in Aylesbury is his..

EDIT:

That's Bloxham on Ancestry, but Bloxman on FreeBMD
The Index image is pretty blurred, but I think it's Bloxham.

EDIT again:

That could be the right marriage. It looks as if the bride had been previously married (nee Simmons), and born 1908

Marjorie R Simmons
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916-2005
Name: Marjorie R Simmons
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1940

Inferred County: Buckinghamshire
Spouse: Charles W Hawkes
Volume Number: 3a

In which case, if that's Frederick's first marriage, there are no descendants.

This would be his death:

Name Frederick Francis Bloxham
Death Age 96
Birth Date 24 Mar 1908
Registration Date Jan 2005
Registration district Cheltenham
Inferred County Gloucestershire
Register Number B69D
District and Subdistrict 479/1B
Entry Number 31

Name Age
Frederick Francis Bloxham

His birth date is given here as March - the 1939 image original shows March but this had been corrected later to February so whichever is correct, this would be the same one.

It looks like this male line ends here.

Would the descendents down the female lines be of any use ?

Actually that might be very useful Dea :-)

Dea

Dea Report 5 Oct 2017 12:40

I know practically nothing about DNA for genealogy research purposes although there are a couple of people on here who do.

I noticed that Frank had a brother Frederick who I can see got married and had at least 4 children. The oldest of these was a boy.

Do you know if it would be any use following his descendants down and seeing if any of them would give a DNA sample which might be of any use to you in proving a connection for you to the Bloxham family ?

I could explore further if you think it would be of any help.

So today I ordered a dna test, it occurred to me that my great grandfather Frank Henry Simms, his eldest child was Harry Leonard Simms and his eldest child was Paul Simms and curiously I am his eldest child so I suspect their is a good likelihood that if Bloxham is indeed my paternal great great grandfather I will very likely carry the dna markers. Still it will be interesting to see how much of my discovered Gaelic dna will come through :-)

Laird

Laird Report 5 Oct 2017 09:50

Thanks Dea......so it looks like Frank Bloxham only had one child my great grandfather Frank Henry Simms. I know Charlotte Simms moved into London and also married, I think Minall was her married name and she went on to have two further children.
