Amy, you might do best to send Susan a private message since this is her first time using the boards - she might not know how to find a reply here.

Just click on her name and send a message.

She will get an email notice that she has a message at this site.

You two might prefer to discuss the family details privately in any case.

Hi Susan,
Just got your message. Thanks for this info. I know somewhere along the line my father changed his name. He was known to us as Albert Ernest Bolton when he married my mother.. I knew he had been married before but I don't think he divorced his first wife before he married mother. Also that he had a family if this is the right family your husbands late mother would be my half sister. This would appear to be the right family as his parents were definitely Mark Keen & Annie Bolton. Do you know anything about Albert's brothers & sisters?

Hi, Susan - welcome to the boards.

It's some months since Amy posted her last message , so she may not be looking for replies now.

You can try sending her a personal message (just click on her name at the top of her post).
She will be notified by GR that she has a message from you, and then may (or may not) reply.

Hello Amy,
My husbands late mother was Phyliss Keen. Her father was Albert Edward Keen. Her mother being Emily Dumbleton. She was one of 11 children. The Grandfather was Mark Keen, the Grandmother was Annie Elizabeth Bolton. This is the family you have been looking at.

Thank you everyone for your help regarding the Keen family. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Deborah Hepworth, Rosa's granddaughter. DOB, if she is still alive or if she had any family?

Amy......this is the FreeBMD site......

www.freebmd.org.uk

And this is the link to the "Free Electoral Roll"....

http://www.freeelectoralroll.co.uk/

Which might help you to find living members of your half siblings.

For example.......there is a David R Keen living in Birmingham.

If you use the search facility at the top of the screen and from the drop down box click on "search all member trees" there is someone called Phyllis on this site who has Emily Dumbleton in her tree. You can click on her name and send her a private message. If she still has the same email address that she registered with Genes then she will be informed that she has a message from you.

My father names Mark Keen as his father on the marriage certificate in 1938. Mark was deceased by this time. My father states his own occupation as Civil Engineer. The info you have all found out seems to be on the right track.

If your father's first marriage WAS to Emily Dumbleton (and he used the Keen surname) then there are these births after 1911 :-

KEEN ALBERT E 1915 — 1915 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Aston, Warwickshire, England

KEEN DAVID R 1930 — 1930 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Warwick, Warwickshire, England
e
KEEN JOHN H 1925 — 1925 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Warwick, Warwickshire, England

KEEN MARGARET F 1923 — 1923 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Warwick, Warwickshire, England

KEEN MARIE W 1913 — 1913 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Aston, Warwickshire, England

KEEN MARJORIE R 1917 — 1917 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Coventry, Warwickshire, England

KEEN PHYLLIS M 1920 — 1920 England & Wales births 1837-2006 Warwick, Warwickshire, England

FINALLY......I think this is Albert Keen and Emily Dumbleton after their marriage in the 1911 census (Albert born in the right place):-

1911 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
30 Parliament St Small Heath B'Ham, Aston, Warwickshire, England

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Occupation Age Birth year Birth place

Albert Keen Head Married Male Cycle Fitter 28 1883 Banbury Oxford
Emiloy Keen Wife Married Female - 28 1883 Budbrook Warwick (Emily on image)
Dorothy Keen Daughter Married Female - 6 1905 Sparkbrook Bham
Elsie Keen Daughter - Female - 4 1907 Coventry
Mable Keen Daughter - Female - 2 1909 Coventry
Gladys Keen Daughter - Female - 0 1911 Samll Heath Bham

That would give 11 children with the ones born after the 1911 census.

This would rule out the Albert Keen found in London in the 1911 census<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I have deleted the earlier marriage I thought might be his when I found his birth as Albert Keen Bolton.

I now think the marriage to Emily Dumbleton is much more likely now that Amy has said she thinks her father had a large number of children from his first marriage.

Does your father name Mark Keen as his father on your parent's marriage certificate (or is there no father mentioned) - just so we know we are looking at the correct family?

What is your father's occupation on your parent's marriage certificate?

What leads you to believe that your father had so many children from his first marriage?

Amy

Amy Report 17 Sep 2015 15:12

Albert in his first marriage had as many as 13 children, goodness knows who they all are. I have drawn a complete blank on them.

Amy

Already have a copy of my parent's marriage certificate Albert married Amy Elizabeth Lockley in 1938 my mother.

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 16 Sep 2015 20:56

I think for further information.........Amy needs to purchase a copy of the 1938 marriage certificate for Albert Bolton.

Spouse...Amy E Lockley???

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 16 Sep 2015 19:58

That looks pretty good for Albert in the 1911 census PricklyHolly. I would imagine that he only used his actual birth name of Bolton on official documents - like marriage certificates etc. Probably always known as Keen so as the same as the rest of the family.

I'm completely lost with Annie Elizabeth's parents now (although on Findmypast the mother's maiden name is Tustain rather than Tuscain).

I'll have to leave this for now as we are going out early for a meal.

Will come back to the thread later tonight to see what's what.
