Please would someone look at the emigration records on Ancestry for me and see if the above appears anywhere.

He is OH's great-uncle and we didn't know he existed until after most of his generation were dead.

On FMP's recent free weekend, I found lots of newspaper references to him, including one which said he did a month in prison, in 1923. (Which might explain why nobody mentioned him!!)

The only reference after that is a brief announcement in 1940 that he had died in America.

OH has just found a cemetary site with his name as being buried in Regina, Canada, so it is possible the newspaper item is true.

Before leaving the country he lived in Nelson, Lancashire, was a champion swimmer and was in the Coldstream Guards until 1917.

He was married to Ellen Parker, but, according to the newspaper, had stopped paying her any alimony, hence the Court case. He said he would continue paying her if she agreed to a divorce, and was sentenced to a month in jail.

Did he then go to America?? Help, please.

A tree on Ancestry says that he was born 1885, Kirby Moorside, Yorkshire and died 23 April 1952 in Nelson, Lancashire. It also says that he married Sarah Jane Smith in 1911.

Edit: I would ignore it.

Andysmum - who were his parents? Might help identify on Canadian immigration records as I wouldn't think he'd give his wife as NoK.

ADDED:
1901 census shows his parents as George and Elizabeth A.

Thank you all. The tree on Ancestry has his birth correct, but not his wife and certainly not his death.

His parents were George Robinson (died 1905) and Elizabeth Alice Clarke, and they lived in Burnley.

OH has looked up the newspaper cuttings since I put the first post, and it actually says he died in Canada, not America.

Margee, we have just looked at the photo and OH says thank you very much. It is definitely the right person, as it has his correct regimental details.

For general interest, OH got his regimental records from the Coldstream Guards archive, and they took about 3 weeks.

Please would someone look on FMP emigration records for the full details. There are two entries between the right dates for an Arthur Robinson going to Canada ---

One in 1923 to Halifax

One in 1928 to Montreal

The first might be possible, depending on the actual date of sailing, but I think the 1928 one is more likely, particularly as he ended up in Alberta, which is a lot further west than Nova Scotia.

I don't know what other information is given, but hopefully enough to identify which is right, if either of them is!!

Thank you very much, and a Happy New Year to you all. :-) :-) :-)

This one seems to be travelling with George Reive (26) both described as travellers and coming from a C/o address in Newcastle. Both intended to stay in Canada.
Address seems to be c/o J Cook and Son, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Further up the page there is a James R Robinson (32) a stoker, c/o J Cook and Son, 16 Clumber street, Nottingham.

EDIT After reading the newspaper report, this seems to be a very strong contender. He was a traveller staying in Newcastle.

Margaret, that's the same sailing that I posted at 5 Jan 2017 15:36 which appears to confirm it is the correct person.
