I've searched for the name and Hainault Lodge - nothing.

That was the 1939 Register on Findmypast.

That's great - thank you.

Violet didn't know what year she was born in and even though she is officially (as with the 1939 register, marriage etc) Violet, she said her name was Viola. Apparently, she had a brother called Mark, who went into the clergy and died in WW1, but I can't find any info about him.

I'm getting the feeling her family went under the radar!

Thank you so much for your help and research.

Lisa, re that possible second marriage for Violet to Hale, if you go to freebmd.org.uk and search births surnames Hale mmn Gardner you will see a possible birth Camberwell. Possibly still living so I won't post details here.

Edit , I see you have him on your tree so at least I've come to the right conclusion lol.

Hi Malyon. Thank you for the above. Yes, that's the information I have too. I'm just confused because another tree has the same people, but Albert surviving 1920s and Violet dying in Sussex. I guess they could be wrong?

With regards to the census returns, there are two possibilities. The Albert you mention above and another whose father is an ambulance driver.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for being a sounding board for me to talk through my thoughts!

Lisa

Lisa Report 2 Jun 2016 20:02

Hi R Rose - aha, at least my thoughts are sensible. I really am thinking the tree on Ancestry has got the wrong Violet Gardner (Albert living and Violet dying in Sussex).

I just need to work out which Albert he is in the 1911 census. Tough one!

Thank you so much for your help.

There's a mistake on at least one of the trees,

It has :

NAME:
Violet Rose Gardner
BIRTH: 23 Nov 1900 - London
DEATH: Mar 1968 - Worthing, Sussex
MARRIAGE: 1925 - London
PARENTS: Frederick Richard Gardner, Caroline Louisa Simpson
SPOUSE: Albert Hall

well father is not Frederick Richard, he's Frederick Charles as per the baptism and 1911 census

London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906

NAME: Violet Rose Gardner
MOTHER: Caroline Gardner
FATHER: Frederick Charles Gardner
BAPTISM: 16 Jan 1901 - Lambeth St Mary the Less, England

The marriage that the tree owner has as parents is this one...
Marriages Mar 1909 (>99%)
GARDNER Frederick Richard Southwark 1d 92
SIMPSON Caroline Louisa Southwark 1d 92

Malyon that Violet Rosina born Tamworth probably matches this marriage

Thanks, Malyon - there is a mistake somewhere, because my Violet died in 2000 in London. It's so frustrating.

Yes, Rose, def a mistake somewhere. If it is MY Violet, then parents are Frederick Gardner and Caroline Simpson.

I have just found another Violet in the 1911 census!!! Born 1897 in Brixton. SO could be her. BUT in the 1901 census, she isn't mentioned, but an Alice is. According to the 1911 doc, her parents have 8 living children but only 7 listed, so Alice could be elsewhere (but I can't find her).

Also, can't locate THIS Violet in births.

Lisa, if I were you ( and you can afford to do so of course) I'd buy both marriage certs for father's details, I think that may be the only way to unravel it. :-)

Rambling Report 2 Jun 2016 21:29

Lisa, you say your Violet died in 2000? Are you certain of that because it pretty much makes any birth before 1900 very unlikely?

Lisa

Lisa Report 2 Jun 2016 21:58

Yes, definitely died in 2000 and she was 100+.

Hainault lodge was a large and beautiful estate owned by Frederick Green - (Justice of the Peace and Ship Owner) with MANY servants.

It later became a convalescent home:
