Oh that's odd! I don't know how happened. Maybe accidentally. I'm still trying to get used to this technologies etc. where did you find the death record at Waltham that shows the birth year? I was sure I checked a Waltham one on freebdm but it didn't match up but then perhaps I'm confused by it again :-)

backtomyroots, can I just mention that your other thread re Saunders has been deleted? i take it that you did so, but would respectfully suggest if a thread has info on that you leave it on the board.... someone may have something to add, or in the future someone connected to the family might see it and want to get in touch...also, you may want to return to it yoursefl if heaven forbid you lose the info ( if your computer crashes for instance ). .

Hmmm I found the census and she married george james newman and they had two kids by 1911, one died :-( I cannot find her death anywhere. I found one caroline E newman who dies in St Olave in 1933 but she is 78 so its way off. I checked the whole list on freeBDM and none of the ages match up. Anyone have a clue please?

If you try to re-do that free membership with ancestry you can even find her marriage certificate.

Remember ............ you do have to give credit card information before you can start the "free" membership, and that is why we say let them know 2 or 3 days before the 14 days are up that you do not wish to continue, otherwise they WILL charge your credit card.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Jul 2016 03:55

so this is Caroline's marriage registration, she married one of two men ............

Marriages Mar 1905 (>99%)
DAY Sidney Thomas St. Olave 1d 250
FOXWELL Caroline Eliza St. Olave 1d 250
Newman George James St. Olave 1d 250
YOUNG Martha St . Olave 1d 250

Caroline married either Sidney Thomas Day OR George James Newman

So to find out who she married you look on the 1911 Census for EITHER Caroline Day with husband Sidney OR Caroline Newman with husband George ............ in each case using her birth year +/- 2 and birthplace as London

You should get your answer in one try!

I figured out this is Robert Nicholas son of James and Matilda.

The caroline(1882) hasn't come up before. I dont get any results for her in 1891 census or any other census. I presume she is Roberts sister. I found her birth in 1882 and marriage in 1905 but not sure who she married or why she is in no further census? and so can't find death either.

Caroline Foxwell 19 b.ca 1882, Rotherhithe, Sister, Paper Cigarette Maker

As you can see, by looking at the image, I have confirmed that it does NOT say Visitor, therefore the assumption is that they are all living together in the same house.

where do you look at the censuses??

Can you not open the actual image of the census so you can see what is actually written on there, so you can check that the transcription is correct???????

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Jul 2016 01:07

If they are visiting, the record will show Visitor

LOOK at the census image!!!!

I found a 1901 census for a Robert and Maude foxwell in st olave. Im pretty sure this is my robert foxwell(1876) son of James(1851) and matilda. In the census it has two sister there caroline and Mary. I guess we wouldnt know if they are living there or just happen to be visiting right? In the 1881 census he appears to be Robert P but then in the 1911 he is down as Robert N unless Im mistaken somehow.

Could somebody please confirm for me?

Rambling Rose. I contacted the site and they said they have rebuilt it and they aren't aware of dead links which is very odd. However on the dead links page which returns a 404 error there is a menu up the top of the page and the links all work from there.

The site does seem to have stalled somewhat, following the death of its founder.
But if you google Lightermen you will find lots of general info.

Findmypast has the apprenticeship/binding records which is where I found the info I posted here:

Thomas Doggett Coat & Badge records
1715-2010

A record of all known competitors who rowed in the annual Thomas Doggett Coat & Badge race 1715-2010 ? 4,402 records.

Corporation of Trinity House
