but born in Ireland c 1841. Parents were Bridget Maguire and Michael John Collins (sometimes written Collens) appears on the Wales 1851 census but then no trace. Various family researchers have looked for him but I see no progress was ever made. Michael was a Master Tailor, and although subsequent sons went down the mines, I wonder if this Thomas being the eldest son followed his fathers trade??? Any ideas out there?

Hi Andrew, thank you, I have this, and this alone on Tom; sorry, I should have stated that in my intro. But what happens next I really don't know….He would be 20 by the next census - if he survived of course. I do wonder if he went back to Ireland but if so, it will be impossible to find him! His father was from? Cork, and his mother from Tipperary ………….. Collins is a common name amongst both! :-( :-(

Eunice ..............

just a point of interest for you.

Andrew posted the 1851 Census "for reference" ................. in other words for the help of the other helpers.

You did reference finding him in the 1851 census, from which we could infer that you had the census information, but the helpers do not!

We have to get our heads around the family, to know other members of the family etc, so that we can search.

Eunice Report 22 Nov 2008 23:35
Michael Collins (Collens, on Welsh 1851 census) lived at Buckley Rd Buckley, Flintshire. Married to Bridget; possibly came from Cork, had children Thomas, Peter and Martha. Peter eventually married an Anne Griffith. No trace of Michael or Bridget after 1851 - they were aged 47 and 37 respectively then. I suppose they could have gone back to Ireland but just wondered if they appear in anyone else's tree?
