Thanks for all your hard work today, much appreciated.

I think this is William's death (you'll need credits from the GRONI to view):

William McCashin 24th February 1925 61 Male Downpatrick
-------------------------------------

I'm struggling to see the births of any of the McCashin children

Hopefully somebody else will take a look- be good to get another opinion.

I'm having to pop out with the wife, anything you can find will be great thank you. Be back in a bit.

AustinQ Report 20 May 2017 10:41

Ok- I'm not sure it is correct. In 1911 Agness states she has been married 36 and has 2 children still living. - However, there are more than 2 children in 1901.

Bear with me- I'll add stuff as I find.

Agnes died 17th September 1919- abode Tulyvery
Wife of William McCashin (present at death)

She was aged 56
--------------------------------------------------

I'm now pretty sure the 1901 & 1911 families are the same people. Perhaps on the 1911 Agnes just stated the two children that were at home and hadn't understood the question?

Using the same link above for the Police census- this is the same family as posted on the 1901 census (not sure where Maggie is), note Nancy is Agnes:

40 Shrigley Village
. William McCASHIN head labourer
. Agnes McCASHIN wife millworker
. Sarah Jane McCASHIN daughter millworker
. William John MCCASHIN son millworker
. Mary McCASHIN daughter
--------------------------------------------------------------

Sarah Jane McCashin married George Woodside 1900
William John McCashin married Sarah Stevenson 1902
Mary McCashin married Samuel Johnston 1914
Margaret McCaskin married William Woodside 1918
--------------------------------------------

I'm not seeing a death for Father, William.

AustinQ Report 20 May 2017 10:30

Sorry Stephen- I forgot to refresh the page.

I'll see what I can find re Agnes/ Nancy

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 20 May 2017 10:29

I'm wondering if the Mary Woodside above, should actually be Margaret.

John Woodside aged 11, a millworker, died Tullyveery in 1892- mother Margaret was present at death.

A Margaret Woodside married Robert Stevenson in 1909- her abode was Shrigley, and father listed as William Woodside, Labourer.

Mother Margaret passes away in 1917, Tullyvery, daughter Margaret Stevenson present at death
-------------------------------------

This is Margaret in 1911:

Residents of a house 52.1 in Shrigley Village (Killyleagh, Down)

Woodside Margaret 54 Female Head of Family Presbyterian Co Down Drawer in Spinning Mill Widow
Stevenson Margaret 23 Female Daughter Presbyterian Co Down Spinner Flax Married
Stevenson Robert 26 Male Son in Law Presbyterian Co Down Farm Servant Married

Margaret states she's had 10 children- only 3 are still living (I presume this would be William. George and Margaret)

All looks good not heard that before about Agnes/ Nancy
Nancy aged 36 1901
Agnes aged 50 1911

Do you think that's OK ?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 20 May 2017 09:50

Although no ages are given on the police census 1891- 1899, this is possibly William and George Woodside:

54 Shrigley Village
. Mary WOODSIDE head millworker
. William WOODSIDE son millworker
. George WOODSIDE son millworker
. John WOODSIDE son .
. Maggie WOODSIDE daughter

I was struggling to find the family in 1901- but then spotted this. The ages seem all over the place, but I think it's still the same family (Agnes/ Nancy/ Ann/ Hannah are often interchangeable):

Residents of a house 130 in Shrigley Village (Killyleagh, Down)

William McCashin Head of Family Married 47 1854 Down
Nancey McCashin Wife Married 36 1865 Down
William J McCashin Son Single 19 1882 Down
George Woodside Son in Law Married 23 1878 Down
Maggie McCashin Daughter Single 18 1883 Down
Sarah J Woodside Daughter Married 22 1879 Down
Mary McCashin Daughter Single 15 1886 Down
Mary Woodside Grand Daughter Single - - Down
------------------------------------

Note that daughter, Sarah married to George Woodside- perhaps a brother or relation of William Woodside? This is their marriage:

21st April 1900
Killyleagh, Downpatrick

George Woodside
Bachelor, age 22, Machine boy.
Abode: Shrigley
Father: William (labourer)

Sarah Jane McCashin
Spinster, age 22, Spinner
Abode: Shrigley
Father: William McCushin (Labourer)
