I have now found out that Beatrice Muriel Gearing married James Vanderboon in 1944 Brighton and Hove, she did a civil repatriation to Canada in 1946 as a war bride to Edmonton Alberta. She came home in 1950 for a visit and returned on the 21/09/1950 on the Franconia, Cunard White Star Ltd from Liverpool to Quebec. Is there any way I can find records from Canada that she had any children or when she died. Any information would be very helpful.

ArgyllGran Report 3 Jun 2017 17:09

There's advice here, and links to various websites,:

https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Canada_Genealogy

But, generally speaking, I don't think such recent records are available for you to look up online.

Dorothy

Dorothy Report 3 Jun 2017 17:17

Yes I understand that now I think about it. If she had any children they would still be in their 60's probably. She was born in 1908 so was 36 when she married and 38 by the time she got to Canada, maybe she thought she was too old then to have children.
She will be dead by now, so I suppose that is the only record I need to close this part of my tree. Thank you for the link.

You could try Sheila's will, to see if there is mention of Beatrice or any neices/nephews? If you're willing to fork out £10 it can be ordered from here:

I am looking for Arthur Gearing's death. He was born in Brixton in 1882. He was living at 19, Fonthill Rd, Hove in 1939. His wife Robina died in 1965 and left £152 in her will to her daughter Sheila, I thought Arthur must have already died, but maybe this is not the case..This has all been confirmed in this post, but I cannot find Arthur's death anywhere. There is an Arthur Gearing who died in Eastbourne, but he was also born in Eastbourne, so it can't be him. My Arthur seems to have disappeared, can anyone help.

Gearing - Robina Cunningham if 19 Fonthill Road Hove Sussex died 19 August 1965. Adminisration Lewes 7 October to Sheila Winifred Rennie married woman £152.

Sheila was named as Administrator of the estate, not necessarily that she was given £152. But it might indicate that Arthur had ? already died, separated or incapacitated which doesn't help find a death. Looks to be no will going to probate, so there will be no information to be gleaned from an administration although you can send for the document still

Dorothy started a new thread about Arthur's daughter Beatrice today.
Have advised her to keep everything on this thread rather than a new one.

"My relative Beatrice Muriel Gearing married a Canadian I think 1942-44, James Vanderboon or Vanderboom in Hove. She was repatriated to Canada as a war bride in 1946, she came over to see her parents in 1950 and returned to Quebec in 1950 from Liverpool. Can anyone give me information about how I find deaths and or wills in Canada please."

ArgyllGran Report 12 Jun 2017 17:20

As I said in my post of 3 June @ 17:09, recent Canadian records are generally not available online.

From FamilySearch:

Deaths
Alberta death records date from about 1890. When requesting the record for genealogical purposes, be sure to request a certified photocopy of a registration of death (long form). This record will generally contain the name, date and place of death, sex, age, marital status and registration number and date, and may contain the name of spouse, names and birth places of parents, usual residence, occupation and date and place of birth.

******** Death records in Alberta are not public until after 50 years have passed from the date of death. To apply for a genealogical search of death records less than 50 years old, you must be able to show that you are an eligible next of kin (parent, sibling, children or spouse). *********

Thank you for all this information but I just really wanted to know where to look to find deaths and or wills in Canada, is there a web site anyone can recommend.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 12 Jun 2017 17:25

As posted above - death records in Alberta are not public until after 50 years from date of death.

Similar rules apply in other states.

You can try Googling for an obituary, but I can't see anything for her.

EDIT:

You could try contacting these people:

http://www.servicealberta.ca/death-certificates.cfm

but I suspect you'd have to know the date of death already.

Thank you Maddie for your information about the lack of being able to find details from Canada, I did not know it would be so difficult with them being part of the commonwealth. I guess I may have to end my quest in search of Beatrice.
I started a new thread because I was just asking a question about Canada, now I see the importance of continuing when all the information is already on this thread. Sorry
